Help with flare

Hi,

I was diagnosed with UC in Feb. 2008. I went into remission pretty quickly thanks to prednisone, which I finished in April. Everything was great until 2 weeks ago when I started flaring (due to stress and 2 rounds of antibiotics for a UTI). I go to the bathroom 4 to 5 times in the morning only, no D, but lots of mucous and some B. I take Lialda, which makes me feel great until the time I take it in the morning until I wake up in the morning the next day when the bathroom routine starts. Should I call my doctor or wait it out? I'm not opposed to going on a short course of prednisone or taking suppositories. I know nothing about suppositories. I'm new to UC so any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

It might be good to call your doctor.  It sounds like you realize you're in another flare so just sticking with the meds you're on now may not get you out of it.  And as you suggest, some form of rectal meds may help.  Try to read some of Quincy's posts.  She is very knowledgeable about them. 

You also might want to ask your doctor to check stool samples, since this started after being on antibiotics.  You might have something like C diff (I say this knowing that I probably need to do the same thing, after being on amoxicillin in June).   

You should go see your doctor as soon as you think you are getting a flare-up. At least call and ask what you should do. I've had UC since early 2004, and the one thing I've FINALLY learned is that flares do not go away on their own for the most part. You can have good days and bad days, but your intestines are inflamed and ignoring that and hoping it will get better will not help at all. Believe me.
