How do you bleed?

It varies, but when it's really bad the spasms are intense and it drips into the bowl. Right now it's kind of mixed in the stool like spots. Sometimes it is just on the tissue.

I have hemmies... so it can be just on the toilet paper or dripping. But in a flare its mostly mixed in and it fills up the bowl.

I have days where i don't bleed... but in a flare up i bleed every time i go. I'm getting better from a flare up now and am only seeing blood if the cramps or spasming gets really bad... and just if i eat somethin that doesn't agree.

Daily bleeder here! I get up, & expel small amounts of bloody mucous a couple times. Then I'll actually pass solid stool, sometimes with a little bit of blood on it, but not on the tp. I do that 3-4 times usually. Then I'm good. Sometimes thruout the day I'll pass just mucous, very little blood. But always, every morning, there is bloody balls of mucous first thing. This is when I'm in "remission", mind you! While flaring, it's bad, blood dripping into the toilet, the bowl bright red, etc. I used to freak out about the blood, but then learned on here that many many people bleed daily, & that's just the way it is. If I told my GI (well, he does know, but...) he'd recommend prednisone. Not again, thanks! So I just deal with it. To me, it's not a sign of a flare, it's just a sign of a mildly inflamed colon. Which I always seem to have!

i just think they bleed diff... the blood is brighter too.

but for some reason i've had a hemmie for years..external anyways...and most people say they have pain, but i've never really had it bother me except that it looks weird and bleeds lol

i guess if it ever got bothersome i'd have it removed.

It is very hard to distinguish the blood from a rectal flare and the blood from a hemmie. If you are having bright red blood, see if your doc can prescribe a steroid suppository (if they have it where you are) because then it will help the bleeding from a hemmie in addition to stopping a rectal flare. I have an internal hemmie that protrudes on occasion and when I see bright red blood and I get a bit of itching down there then I usually assume the bleeding is from the hemmie. But I found that I can't assume anything with my UC because I am always bleeding to some extent and I never know what it is from. I honestly can't say what it is like to have a lack of Uc symptoms associated with my bleeding because I have had only a small (smaaaallll) percentage of remissions over the years. So I get confused too. It is frustrating as all heck that's for sure! But yes, rectal inflammation blood can be as bright as hemmie blood. The lighter the blood, the closer to the rectum it is - the darker the blood, higher up in the GI tract it is.

For me, when I'm flaring, it's frequent episodes of D, accompanied with bright red blood dripping into the toilet. And the mucous, gas, general overall feeling of unwellness, etc. On a day to day basis, I have the bloody mucous, accompanied with totally formed stools, maybe a little blood on the tp. Just pink, mixed in with stool & mucousy stuff. No D, overall feeling ok, no dripping blood. That's how I differentiate. Plus, with a flare, it gets worse & worse daily, whereas I've been in the same pattern of "ok-ness" for months now. But still seeing blood/bloody mucous daily. I don't have any internal hemmorrhoids that I know of- none were ever mentioned to me after scopes either. Have had some external ones, but they have been behaving themselves as of late & causing no trouble.

I have blood and mucous daily, but mostly in the morning if I'm doing better. I've had bad flares where there were sheets of blood, more blood than anything else it seemed.

For those bleeding frequently, I would suggest Rowasa(same medication as Asacol) but rectally. I find that it does help me reduce and speed up the elimination of bleeding. Frankly, I was surprised why my doctor hadn't recommended it quicker. It took a long time before they did and I find it very helpful now. May help you too..

So basically those of us when Hemmies and Inflammation just have to assume that the everyday bleeding is from the colitis just to be on the safe side. What that does though is put us on maybe unnecessry medications. I guess the best thing is to have surgey or injection therpay on the hemmies but the GI says that's risky as it can cause a flair.

On a rigid sigmoidoscope the doctor found a stage two Hemmoroid which he says will bleed, but he also poked my colon a bit and saw blood there too - so I have a double wammy - blood from a from patch of inflammation and blood from a hemmie.
