Tired and Heartburn

Hi,  A couple of months ago I started on IMURAN.  Endocort did nothing for me for 3 years.  I had flares all the time.  I tapered off Endocort, 3 one month, than 2 for a month, and than 1 for a month.  So it's just me and Imuran now.   It has been a wonder drug for me.  Not one flare since I'm on it.  I can go out of my house now.  I don't feel chained to the toilet.  It's giving me my life back.  BUT...I'm really tired most of the time and have real bad heartburn.  I'm popping Tums but they don't seem to be doing anything for me.  Anyone else on Imuran with these side effects.

I'm on 6mp and yes, I have acid reflux. I take Prilosec OTC now and it has helped greatly. I am not really sure if it's acid reflux or gastritis that I have but the Prilosec seems to be working for me. Any immune suppressor can make you tired. I know it does for me. Do you get your blood testing regularly though to be sure nothing else is contributing to the fatigue?

I kind of figured that it's the Imuran that's making me tired because I didn't have this before I started it. But I'll take take the tired rather than the 20 times a day to the toilet. Hopefully my body will adjust to it and this tired feeling will get less. I do take Nexium for gastric ulcers that's why I was surprised to get the heartburn. I thought the Nexium would take care of heartburn. My husband had suggested the Over the counter Prilosec. I might just give that a try. I do have a schedule for blood tests and I'll stay on top of that. Thanks for being out there. Hope you're having all good days. Arlene

If you are still having breakthrough hb with the nexium, try an H2 blocker - zantac, tagament, etc. Prilosec is another PPI. Be sure to talk to your doc before adding another med to the list.

I know that pred gave me awful heartburn. I didn't ever think that the Imuran might be causing more problems... Hmmm... more things to consider.

I took zantac years ago. I have an appointment to go back to the doc in 2 weeks so I'll ask him about taking the zantac. Meanwhile I'll take the Tums and watch my coffee intake. I notice an hour after a cup of coffee it starts bothering me. I'm really doing great on the Imuran. I was in a constant flare for 3 years. The entocort did nothing for me. I still take the Asacol 2 three times a day. So I'm in a good zone right now. What a good feeling to be able to do things outside of the house. To go to the mall, to church, go visiting, these are things I haven't been able to do in so long. Hope you're doing well. Thank you. Arlene

yip im having the same 2 problems since ive reached the right dosage and still no improvement from them but i hear they take a while to work, and im on 40mg on pred at the moment and that amount use to keep me up half the night so atless im getting good sleep now

Sorry to hear that you're having the same problems. I'm sure our bodies have to adjust to new meds. and we'll have brighter days down the road. I'm happy for what the Imuran is doing for me. I haven't tried any probiotics but I notice alot of members use them and I'm sure with good results. Hope someone can give you some advice on them. I tried the spinach thing and it did nothing for me. Sounds like you're getting a good nights rest now. Hope you're having good days. Arlene

I also suffer(ed) from those things. The heartburn, though, went away after a few months. But it was BAD! I took OTC stuff for it once in a while, but it was hit and miss whether or not it worked. Plus, I can't say for sure it was the Imuran, as I was also still on Prednisone. But I am also tired all the time! I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning and usually need a nap during the day. Bloodwork is always good. Doc said it was from coming off the steroids, but I've been off them for 4 months now.

I'm only off the Entocort about 2 weeks now and the heartburn started shortly after that. Maybe it's me coming off the Entocort that's causing the hb. I'll wait it out. Hopefully this too shall pass. The tiredness is a bummer. I have to force myself to get up in the morning otherwise I think I could sleep all day. During the afternoon I throw myself on the couch and watch tv for an hour. That seems to help but it is so unlike me to lay down during the day. Hopefully my energy comes back. I keep putting things off, like cleaning the house. I tell myself I'll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and I say the same thing. Oh well, I catch up. I'm feeling good with the colitis and crohns so I shouldn't complain. Have a feel good day. Arlene

yeah you too, yeah im getting good sleep 10hrs a night easy which is good, im just hoping i can get off the pred b4 summer over here, so got about 3months to do that. yeah i know what probiotics im getting, going to get them next week, got knee surgery 2moro so wana get that out the way 1st.

I see people complaining about not being able to get a good night sleep. That's on thing we got going for us..we sleep well. Hope yur knee surgery goes well tomorrow.
