ANTIBIOTICS AND POSTPARTUM...CAN EITHER CAUSE A FLARE

I had a pretty long bad flare durign my pregnancy and my newborn is now 3 weeks old, i have been on augmentin for an infection for a week and am starting to feel like i might be in the beginning of a flare, just wondering if anyone else has been there...any suggestions?  Thanks...this forum is always so helpful!

Augmentin can definitely cause D. I couldn't take it even before I had UC because of that. With UC, the D can be longer lasting and can go into a flare. I see you're not taking any probiotic; often a healthy dose of a good probiotic can nip the flare in the bud, and it isn't harmful to the baby if you're nursing.

where do you get those at?  i can go get one right now.  i would love to avoid a flare if at all possible.  i have cabin fever as it is, if i get a flare i won't go anywhere until i'm better.  i'm not breastfeeding so it's not a problem.  let me know if you can, thanks!

Usually one of the easier ones to find locally is Culturelle; most pharmacies carry it. Another one some of us take either VSL#3 or Primadophilus Reuteri; these are not as widely available locally.

ok i'll look for the culturelle right now and try online for te other stuff. thanks again...i just don't think i can handle a newborn and a flare!

Hi, congrats on the birth of your baby! My daughter is 16mo. and i flared throughout the pg, and also flared badly postpartum. It kicked in a few weeks after her birth. My doctors all agreed that it was hormone related. I was unable to treat it w/o meds and ended up on pred. (and was still given the ok to breastfeed, for others who might read this. Even my babies Neonatologist who cared for her while she was in NICU said the pred would be ok for me to take).

I agree w/ the probiotic! You should always also eat yogart or use probiotic when using antibiotics.
