Stool Test by Independent Lab comes back more complete

Emory, you were asking about indpendent stool tests... this is what I know

several people who I know have opted to have stool tests done through the NP at Smokie Mountain Lab or other independent labs. One friend who had her tests done first at the hospital got a clear bill, she then had her stool tests done at an independent lab through the NP and they found she had multiple parasites and some very low levels of essential acids. This is not someone who has UC but she was very sick and losing weight.
The ND treated her for the parasites and she is doing really well now.

It's not cheap usually around $250 but they find a lot that the regular labs don't test for or do not. I am not sure why the regular labs don't find more. I will be doing it myself shortly as soon as I can afford it.

Getting the right NP:
What I did was to ask several NP if I could come in for a free 15 minute meeting to see if I felt that they would be the right Dr. for me. I met 4 then narrowed it down to the final 2 called each of them with any further questions then decided on the one that I now have.

I made a list of questions before I went in so I could be very concise and find out what they knew about UC and how they would treat it and what they found to be effective. I could tell pretty quickly who knew about the disease and who did not. I went with an ND who could finish my sentences and really knew the jargon and had some specific methods that he has found succesful treating UC...

So how do we find these labs? I think I would pay the fee to have an independent test done.

What I have done is found 4 Natuolpaths in town via recommendations and I asked each of them if I could have a 15 minute FREE introductory interview. I wrote down my questions so as to not waste their or my time and I went to all four.


Two out of 4 requested the stool test. One told me just pick up the kit from the secretary, then I would send it in and the ND gets the results. The independent lab requires that the test go to the ND and he/she interprets the results.

You could also ask at a good health foods store in the nutrition area if they recommend or have any experience with ND in town, it's best to find someone that has a reputation as there are a lot of quacks out there and you do have to be selective. Ask acupuncturists, a good health club, friends and when you start hearing the same 4 names more than once you start getting a feeling for who you might want to see.
I haven't done mine yet but am planning to.

1. find a trusted ND with a reputation in digestive disorders
2. interview
3. stool test
4. ND gets results.
