Evening everyone =]

Im getting an upper and lower scope done on Oct.7th and my doctor wants me to use Magnesium Citrate the day before. Ive had a scope once before and used the Magnesium Citrate but found that it was REALLY hard to get the second bottle down. I called my GI today and asked if there were any alternatives for the Citrate and he called me in Miralax. Has anyone tried it..im sure you have but is it better than the nasty Citrate? And what would you recommend i mix it with? Thanks bunches =]

I have heard people mix it with gingerale. Great idea! I have dranken it straight and it still makes me feel icky to even think about it.
My scopes are tomorrow, so I am prepping today. UGH.

I mixed the miralax with powerade. I'm not sure what your doc's instructions say, but mine said liquid diet starting the morning I was going to prep, then take the dulcolax and start the miralax at 5pm. I didn't start moving anything until after 9pm, and then I was up all night in the bathroom. I'd recommend starting the liquid diet the day prior to the prep, and start the actual prep earlier in the day. Maybe that way you'll get some sleep that night. The miralax doesn't taste all that bad, and I was able to get it all down.

Thanks =] I think ill try mixing it with Powerade. Does it even have a flavor? My doctor said its just a powder that has no taste. I have to start prepping on the 5th with a liquid diet. I went to my hospital today bc i was having pain and was in the bathroom an hour as soon as i woke up =[ that wasnt too fun. and now theyve decided to admit me monday and do some gall bladder tests to make sure that isnt the cause of some of my pain and then stay the night there and get the scope done on tuesday. Wish me luck =/ Im gonna need it haha

Yes, try the Powerade.  I had both scopes in June and first time in four preps that I threw anything up - yuck.  They said to mix Mirilax with Gatorade - I can't even look at it in the store anymore!

So did the miralax make you throw up kops2da? ugh im just glad i dont have to drink that citrate..just thinking of anything with a lemony flavor makes me sick lol

You know I never really liked Gatorade but that was prescribed so I got the orange - YUCK - that is what made me throw up I am sure.  I would choose Powerade next time.  I got most of it to stay down - it was enough anyway - left about 8 to 12 oz. and doctor said all was clean.  Eating very light for a couple days before prep also helps!

I was told to use only lemon-lime, or lemon drinks (or some other clear type) with the miralax. No orange, red, or purple drinks. I guess the more colorful drinks can make your insides pretty colors. Also, refrigerate the powerade before using it. I bought some, mixed the miralax in it, and then put it in the fridge for a day. Give it a good shaking again before drinking.

Must be my orange worked ok - I asked and they said ok.  Every doctor, every clinic has their own ways don't they?  BUT - I can't even look at orange gaterade again.  I chose that because I REALLY hate the regular taste.

When you drink the Miralax, use a straw and put it in the back of your mouth. That way it bypasses most of your taste buds and smell sensors, and goes down easier.

I tried to "cheat" and moved the time between glasses of liquid dynamite up as my directions said I could. I ended up throwing up, I think because I just had too much fluid intake in a short time. Next time, I'd start earlier and put more time between the doses.

And stay close to the bathroom. I mean very, very close. Like in it. Like at the worst point, just sit on the toilet and read a book or use your laptop. Because of the volume of fluid, I found it hard to make it in time.

I just research the internet for Milalax prep and found several different answers - only one said no orange.  I know mine said...

mix a 64 ounce bottle Gatorade (any flavor except red or purple)

 

So I assumed orange was ok - very interesting subject anyway - one to be sure to ask !

eh so im deff not using the orange lol thanks for the tips =] i go on monday to be admitted for some testing..CT scan, ultra sound and something else to check my gall bladder bc now they think that might be bad too =/ and then on tuesday im doing the pill cam and scope.
So what exactly does the miralax taste like when mixed with powerade? Can you taste it or does it just taste like powerade? Does it still make you gag?

I didn't notice any adverse flavor. Miralax just tends to make things a little sweeter and...thicker I guess is the word for it. I really didn't find it objectionable compared to other preps. But take Judy's advice, start early, and camp out in the bathroom! Once things decide to start moving, there is no stopping it! Heck, you might even want to invest in a padded toilet seat or your legs will fall asleep.
