O man...  if anyone read my last post of "depressed", I mentioned that I am still having symptoms after being off of flagyl for a c diff infection over 2 weeks ago.

Well, my symptoms sure are NOT improving.  I can't get any work done tonight as I've been to the bathroom at least 10 times in the past 4 hours...with stomach cramps.

Details:  With the cramps, it starts off with some bloody mucus and then comes the greenish diarrhea.  This is urgency- there's no delaying going to the bathroom! 

When I called my doctor the other day with concern, he mumbled something about 'irritable bowel' and didn't seem concerned.  Um, I don't have my next apponitment with him until Oc. 27.  I strongly believe that I should be on some kind of medication right now- this is definitely not irritable bowel and it surely is not normal.  I also think I should find another doctor...

Any thoughts?

If you're bleeding, it's not IBS. I would think it's either the colitis, a fissure or hemmies. Greenish diarrhea doesn't sound like a good sign either, although I don't know what it could mean. I agree you should find a new doctor if you're not comfortable with this one. I understand how frustrating it is to look for new doctors though...

Hope you get some relief soon.

Hamley, sounds like it is a good time for a new doc. It can be hard to find someone who actually cares, can your primary care doc give you any suggestions? How long was your flagyl treatment for?

A new GI sounds like a stellar idea. Never settle for a doctor who isn't interested in your concerns, unless that's the only doctor left in the world.

I definitely want to find a new doc-- my mom mentioned something about insurance not covering doctors for a 2nd opinion. Shy may have just said that, I don't realy know, but it's somehting I need to look into. I was on flagyl for a week.

Does anyone else have these symptoms??

Yup, sounds like the good old common flare up symptoms to me.  Go to a decent dr right away.  Bleeding is not something that should be happening, and the cramping and urgency clearly point to a flare that needs to get under control.  Either get him, or someone from his office on your case to get it managed.   My stool can be greenish as well during flares, its probably from your colon not functioning properly and things are moving out much too fast before your colon can strip away all your other digestive juices.   Mucous can also be green/yellowish.

I have the exact same issues... i was on flagyl for 7 days along with another antibiotic, cipro and prednisone and dicyclomine(helped the urgency a lot and gave me at least a couple extra minutes to find a bathroom)

ALSO my GI was like yours but much worse, she wouldnt believe me when i told her what i was feeling or going through and she would even tell me how i felt!!! grr so i havent had a GI in like 2 years, my family doctor prescribes all the meds when i have a flare, mucho cheaper

Definitely go find another GI or at least go to your regular doctor. You should be on UC meds so you can get better!

If your symptoms continue to get worse, I'd get down to an urgent care clinic, or find another doc who is willing to do order a stool culture. I had a very persistent c diff infection that lasted two rounds of flagyl in increasing dosages, and then two and a half rounds on vanco. People that get c diff infections are also prone to relapse, and within 90 days I was back on the vanco. Used an increased dosage though, and 1 round got rid of the c diff. Been clear for over almost three years now.

One thing I noticed is that c diff and UC diarhea look and smell differently. Not to get to technical, but the c diff d was definitely smellier and had an oily sheen to it. Plus it was way bloodier and the sense of urgency was beyond anything I've experienced with just my UC flare. More stomach noises as well.

I sure hope that you've kicked the c diff and are just experiencing a flare now. The c diff made me feel so much worse than just UC, and UC is no picnic. Good luck, and go find a doctor who cares. You can't get better if your doc doesn't think you are ill.
