Humira shots are painful

Just had my first four shots of humira, two in my stomach and two in my thighs. I had expected them to feel like any other shot, but I can honestly say those were the most painful shots I have ever had. I'm going to have to do it myself next time. So, those of you on humira, is it always really painful or are there ways to reduce the pain?

tell me you guys, is your insurance convering this? Did your GI have to fudge your diagnosis to indeterminite/Crohns in order to get coverage? Well I hope it works well for the both of you! I've heard they burn like crazy, the injections, & that letting the shot get to room temp helps. A little....

I'm actually in a clinical trial for humira which unfortunately means I could get the placebo. In addition, in the trial they don't have the pens only the syringes. Your lucky the shot didn't hurt for you. Like I said, I've had many shots in my life but none that felt like that. I've been reading around and it does seem that others have more success injecting it slowly. The injections I got were fairly quick probably six to eight seconds and because there is only one other person participating in the study at my trial site, I wounder how much experience the nurses have injecting humira.

If it hurt that much, you got the Humira. Everyone who's on it says it is painful. They say using ice to help numb the injection site and letting the medication get up to room temperature before giving it help.

I take my dose today, I've been taking it for about a year and a half. For me, as time goes on it gets better. Although I still welt and rash, but it goes away after a while. Sometime the after effect from the shot hurts around the injection spot. When you first inject yourself it does hurt. The more time you inject yourself in a similar location, it will hurt more. I keep moving around from belly to thighs giving one part a break. My doctor is keeping me on 2 pens every 2 weeks until my next appt. Hopefully he will bring me down to 1 pen every 2 weeks. I think Humira is to keep you in remission.

I've studied on Humira a lot since I've been on it for quite a while. I even talked to my doctor wondering why he's having me take 2 shots instead of 1, I looked on the humira site under the Crohn's part since there isn't a UC part, and it states that the first injection is 4 shots, then 2 weeks later it's 2 shots, then it goes down to 1 shot every 2 weeks. So, I asked my doctor about that. He said that with all the flaring I've had, the dosage he's having me take is the proper dosage to keep me in remission. I guess there is another, more advanced information that he has that isn't given for us. Eventually he's bringing me down to 1 shot every 2 weeks though. With the taking effect, I think it took me about 2 or 3 months for it to actually put me in total remission. Before I started Humira, I was kinda in remission, but kinda not.
