Throwing up Lialda

Been sick for over a week.  Taking 6mp, Lialda, prevacid and prednisone.  Tonight the Lialda came out whole after taking it this morning.  All 3 of them totally whole!  I wonder if the 6mp is finally taking over and I can quit the Lialda and prednisone?  SED rate is 13, CRP is 85 which is OUTRAGEOUS!  Diarrhea but no blood.  No stomach pain.  No joint pain.  Pale, no appetite, lethargic.

oh man they didn't go down huh. I am so so sorry you are sick. How long have you been on the Lialda? Is your sickness the flu or med orientated?

Please call your doctor in the morning. It sounds like you have a flu bug. You might need to have some tests run.

Been on Lialda since April 08 when the Asacol wouldn't stay down (they came out whole, too).  But couldn't get off prednisone without a flare so started the 6mp.  Takes a few months for the 6mp to start working.  Wonder if it is working now and that's why the Lialda came up?  Would love to quit the prednisone.  I guess the 6mp allows the discontinued use of prednisone.

Went to ER Friday night.  No flu bug, no urine infection.  White count very low (maybe due to 6mp).  However, CRP rate was out of this world at 85 when it should be less than 1.

Are you sure that they came out whole? The outer coatings of Asacol and Lialda are manufactured to be indigestible, and they have a pin-hole which allows the medicine to come out. When on Asacol, I'd regularly have tablets of Asacol in my stool. My doc said it was normal for the "husks" to come out. I didn't believe him, and I once fished one out (gross I know), but it just a husk, and not the whole pill.

I was sick with a nasty stomach flu about a year ago and threw up some of my Asacol whole. I hadn't taken any since that morning and I threw them up at night. Kinda hurt coming back up! They would come out whole, since the meds aren't released until they reach your colon, and you aren't throwing up stuff once it reaches that point (hopefully).

Edit: I just read your second post. So, what did the ER docs think it might be if it's not a flu bug?

The Asacol came out whole in the stool (I know because this is my daughter I'm talking about, and I felt them)!  Tonight the Lialda came out whole as she threw up on the floor and I had to clean things up.

What I'd like to know is when do I know if the 6mp is working and we can ditch the Lialda and prednisone?  I guess the miracle of the 6mp is that she won't have to be on a steroid anymore.

Get some advice from your doc ASAP. I don't believe any of us are qualified to tell you stop any med. Even if it means calling the docs answering service, get him on the phone and find what he thinks.
