melted canasa!!!

Hello all, i accidently left my canasa in the trunk of my car and then when i went to open one it was all melted n gushy. can i put them in the fridge to firm them back up??? they are so expensive and i really hope i dont have to just toss em...

That should work, Winni. Just be sure they're in a suitable shape! To the best of my knowledge, Mesalamine is heat and cold stable.

Hmm don't know if it's cold/heat stable. It says on the package: Store CANASA® below 25?C (77? F), do not freeze it. Keep it away from direct heat, light, or humidity.

Maybe you should contact the pharmacist to double check.

Maybe you should ask your pharmacist. I went on vacation to Florida this summer via 3 flights and asked my pharmacist if I should carry Canasa on or if it would be OK to pack them, knowing it might get warm in the cargo area of the planes, esp. going through Texas in June, he said a little while in the cargo area would be OK. Hope that helps. I know how expensive they are, lucky for me I've hit my out-of-pocket co-pays for the year and they are now co-pay free to me! How lucky, I get all the suppositories I want!

This happened to me last summer. I got my rx and went to the store with my mom. I left the canasa in my car and they melted. To be honest, I used them and they seemed fine. They went kinda back to their original shape after being in the house, just because of the packaging is formed that way. BUT, they had some jagged edges when I inserted them. It was very minorly uncomfortable until they melted down a bit inside of me. This took a couple of minutes.

Melting Canasa is one big reason I wish we could get mesalamine FOAM in the U.S. & Canada-- like the U.K., Europe, & Australia has available to treat UC for a few yrs already. Suppositories are messy to handle + expensive due to packaging. Beats me why Shire is not marketing the foam here in North America!!!!!! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
