This is crazy interesting news... Sheldon et al have been touting Vitamin E enemas for ages, and today a new study was actually published showing they seem to WORK!

I know we can't post full text here, so I'll link to a story that covers the research plus some commentary...

Very interesting stuff... 100% of the people in this (VERY) small trial showed positive results... and we could guess that side effects from this would pale in comparison to something like an immunomodulator.

They didn't mention diet.They didn't use 4000 IU for each enema.Did they use distilled water? Did they follow the procedure?                                                                                                            Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant.

Have other people on this board tried this? And the success? If you healed the ulcers surely that would just put you in remission rather than cure you?

How bad was your UC and how long had you had it before trying this?

Would you say if you were not bleeding that it is the diet that improves things? (which is no fruit but lots of veg?)

When no medications were working for me, my doctors suggested surgery which I refused.

Vitamin E enema stopped my bleeding within a day.

Vitamin E enema together with physlium seed husk, cinnamon amd saffron works best for me

I am surprised that people are so reluctant to try this simple technique

Diet is always an important consideration for UC, but let's pay attention first to the science--the vitamin E enema has been proven to work, at least in this tiny but incredibly promising study. can you accelerate or further healing with proper diet? In my opinion, absolutely yes. BUT that's not part of this study, and therefore you're on your own. I like to focus on the proven wins and then incorporate other items on my own research.

BTW, mudua, I fully agree on psyllium seed husk, didn't have luck with cinnamon, but ADORE turmeric. It's the best colitis treatment on the planet, in my humble opinino. Saffron would get mighty expensive. Can you share your protocol?

I had a sever case  pan colitis with 2 strictures.The doctors advised colon removal.Took vitamin E enemas which kept me in remission for many years but no CURE.Not until I found the proper diet.No medications.No problems since(over 25 years)I still watch my diet eating plenty of vegetables.Eat a banana but no fruit.This keeps bowel movements regular.Follow the address given  in the above posting by Mudua for the procedure.If done correctly,there will be a positive result in a week.Diet is the cornerstone of the procedure.Once CURED your colon condition will advise the correct diet.Yes,many others have been CURED.

I never had any UC symtoms.I lose stool form and can have more bowel movements when I eat fruit.I listen to my colon.

is there a maintenance schedule you still use after you feel like you achieve remission? do you still take the enemas every week?

He said he cured himself so I assume he doesn't do anything for UC anymore. I wouldn't if I didn't have it.

Would the Vitamin E enema work if the UC inflamation is higher up in the colon? When I got my colonoscopy done my UC inflamation was high enough up that enemas would not reach.

My last vitamin E enema and any medication  taken over 25 years ago.For many years,while using the enema to lead a normal life,I ate in restaurants while working for many years.Only after changing my diet,did my colon heal. I stopped the enemas.One extra bonus no colon polyps.

Pan colitis the total colon is effected.I took the amount of liquid used in the E enema from the amount used in the cortico enema  was using at the time.I also checked with one of the doctors

that told me the amount effects the entire lenght of the colon.

Hi Sheldon,

When I mix the vitamin E with the distilled water the vitamin e liquid seems to seperate from the water. I just wanted to find out if this was normal and that I am not just taking in the distilled water. After I am done using the enema there seems to be left over vitamin e on the inner layers of the enema bulb.
Thoughts?

Hello Paul,

Be sure you read the instructions on posting Issue 64.There you will find the best procedure

for taking up the oil and water into the enema.The vitamin E will not mix with the water.You  place the tip of the syringe on the layer of oil and then suck up the oil and water together.Don't worry about the oil left in the bulb.Leave it there just wash the outside.You will get enough vitamin E to be effective.If done correctly,there will be a positive result within a week.Diet is the cornerstone of the procedure.Please post everything you are using in your diet.Also the information on the label of your vitamin E.

Sheldon -- I'm interested in trying out your plan but I'm currently using Rowasa enemas. They've been helping the bleeding somewhat and I notice as I progress through the day the bleeding gets worse. I guess the Colazal isn't doing much but the enemas are taking care of the bleeding a bit overnight as I retain them. My question is can I still use a bit of the Rowasa at the same time I use the Vitamin E enemas? I know it's a bit to hold but I've gotten good at it. My concern is that if I stop using the Rowasa the bleeding will just get worse. Thanks for your time! -- Rich

Use your colazal enema at a different time of the day.Don't mix enemas.Please send everything on your diet and the information on the label of your vitamin E.sheldon

Sheldon -- here are the ingredients in the vit E supplement I got: d-alpha tocopherol, soybean oil, gelatine (non-bovine), glycerin, water, mixed tocopherols. I'm going to try the diet you suggest and eat lots of veggies, chicken, and fish. I'm trying to stay away from foods with gluten as well. I'm going to try out some kefir as well. Any more suggestions? Thanks for your help!
