Help (possible rectal meds)

I am not sure that what I am taking is the right thing or not. Las Feb (08) I was in hospital (after pred. failed to put me back into remission), for IV steroids that put me back into a normal state (as normal as can be) Now, I cam experiencing no pain, solid movements once a day, but have bleeding that streaks stool and sometimes drips-I cannot say that it is a lot, but def. there in a significant amount. My doc. has put me on corticosteroid enemas once a day. They do not seem to be do anything, and on top of that I have this constant swelling feeling. I take Lialda 2 pills twice daily (max amount) I am only 22 and have had moderate, left sided UC for about a year and a half. I am trying to finish my BA and then go to optometry school next year. I am scared to go back to the hospital and wonder if I am beginning to flare again. Do any of you have the same symptoms. I am hesitant to call my doctor b/c I know he wants to try cyclosporin and I am not sure I want to take that path just yet. Any feedback would be awesome.

If your symptoms are one solid bm daily and with a bit of blood, I'd say your flare is rectally only and that's a good thing your doc put you on the rectal meds.

When did you start them?

Do you use the enemas at night or during the day?

I would call the doc and ask if you could try the Rowasa (or Salofalk if you're not in the US) instead of the cortenema if you think they're not working for you.

The other option would be to add 5ASA suppositores to the regimen you're on at this time.
