I only went about
once or twice a week. I never felt uncomfortable, once a week was normal for me. I would LOVE to have that again...lol.

I was same as you (once or twice a week). Never had any bowel problems before the first flare. I know a lot of people on here say they had always had problems before discovering UC but that wasn't my case.

I've always gone daily. Also I've always had to go in the middle of a meal. My parents used to laugh when I'd get up in the middle of dinner and go to the bathroom. "making room for more?" they'd say. Now they wish they'd have done something about
it, thinking it was a sign. But I tell them now, who would have put those two things together - UC and "making room for more". In between flairs I average one to two times a day.

Mine was also once or twice a week only, before UC.
That's why I was so surprised to end up with this DD.

I use to go every other day. That feels like it was soooo long ago but it was really only 4 years!

I used to go about
1-2 times per day. In remission, I do the same. I have noticed that the structure and color of my BMs are alot different than when I was younger and living with dormant UC.

I used to go once a day pretty reliably but that was about
it. However, for a few years before the UC showed up out of the blue, I started to get sensitive to some foods - I think some low grade lactose intolerance - and get more flatulence. But no IBS or anything. I had an almost 10 year remission after my first years of UC, and for six months before my remission ended, I had IBS and loose stools, and then full blown UC again.

I was a once a day gal, with total bowel control, for example while waiting at the bus stop if the "urge" came I'd be able to control is and within seconds the urge would pass then as soon as I was near a toilet I could "go" or I could wait until later that day for the "urge" to come up again and go...boy do I miss those days...it's why I miss the 80's so much (well, that and big hair LOL)...and being able to eat as much as I wanted and what I wanted without gaining an ounce...I had a great metabolism and I didn't have to exercise, mind you I did a lot of walking/taking the bus but that was pretty much my only form of exercise once I finished school...sorry for the ramble.

That's a tough one, there never was a before UC for me.
However, I'm pretty much in remission since starting my Imuran. For the first time ever I go 1-3 times a day. I'm in awe. And they're usually formed too! It's so weird.

I used to go about
twice a week too. My doctor said it was normal for me. However, if I got nervous about
something, it would always trigger diarrhea.

I was diagnosed with UC in my early 50's, but now believe I had it for years. The BM's and urgency increased as I got older. I never had an accident, but many times I just barely made it to the bathroom.

Before UC - at least 1 BM daily.
And like Goften - I remember as a child, so many times, having to use the bathroom in the middle of a meal. I don't think I've ever been 'normal'

Once a day or once every couple of days. I hated going at school, so every morning I'd go before, whether or not I had to. Probably why I came down with hemmoroids when I was 20. Also on vacations or trips I could go days without going. I guess I liked familiar places to go (upstairs at home.) Now I don't give a sh-- where I go sh--. I got over that fear REAL quick with UC!

You know, I honestly don't remember it was so long ago, I think I went a few times a week but it's hard to remember pre-UC when I'm flaring.. it almost seems like there's never been and never will be anything else.

I used to be a once a week guy, they were huge, i wasn't allowed in certain houses as a kid because I caused plumbing problems. Those days are long gone.

I would say two to three times a week for a LONG LONG time...I even wondered if I went enough...funny to think of that now...however I do think looking back that I had a few very mild flares in my mid 20's 5-6 years before I was diagnosed...at that time I just thought it was stress and nerves and did not realize it may have been the early warning signs of something worse...

Wow, a lot of you never really had normal bowel function...going only a few times a week or less is basically borderline constipation (or even definite constipation) at least that's what it's considered by that British doc from the show "you are what you eat".

I'd take constipation over diarrhea any day of the week. :)

LOL, ya until you actually have constipation, my gawd it's painful and honestly both D or C suck big time...I saw a show on IBS and they interviewed a lady with chronic IBS-C who said the longest she went without having a bowel movement was 30 days and she said she never felt pain like that in her life and even thought of suicide.

I have never been what would be called regular. Always been about
3 a day, not usually formed.
I never had a formed poop in diapers. Not one. There was one day this year I had one hard poop in a day and I was a little freaked out. Hard poop sucks! Could have to do with the sturictures but I am kinda grateful for not fully formed stool. ooh i hate calling it stool.
According to my GI anywhere between 2 a day and 1 every 2-3 days can be normal. It depends on the person.
My dad has always gone every 3 days until he had to take a fiber supplement. He was so funny! He realized that he's just been a little constipated his whole life. He was so happy to find fiber supplements!

I was once every other day for as long as I can remember before UC. In remission I am once a day with formed stools but softer than they were before UC.

I truly miss my morning routine: Wake up, brush teeth, use the toilet for my daily bm. Then shower, breakfast, off to work. I was so regular in the mornings that it never occurred to me that my bowels could betray me like they have.
Now, I wake up, use the loo, wash my hands, brush teeth, use loo, take shower, go make breakfast and pack it for later, use the loo, check my email, loo one last time (whether or not I think I need it), then off to work. I won't eat breakfast until I've been at workfor at least 2 hours. After breakfast, it's the loo again. Through out the day, I drink around 2 gallons of water spread out from waking to sleeping. I'll eat another meal a few hours after my breakfast, and do some snacking through out the day. One more loo trip a hour before my shift is over, and home. Then...wait for it...another loo trip before bed, then bed.

Probiotic-
I noticed you crossed out turmeric and circumin from your signature
I just came across an article on turmeric and had been considering giving it a go. What was your experience with it?
