hi guys first timer here just started imuran 100mg after finding out the hard way have a sensitivity to 5asa group am concerned because it is an immunosuppressor! Have others been recommended to take immune  boosters at the same time or would this defeat the purpose any advice wil be great.

Hi beefree and welcome.  I have been on 6MP for about five years now.  The doctor never recommended an immune booster.  It does sound like a good idea, but it may defeat the purpose of the 6MP.  What would be the purpose of taking an immunosuppressant if you take an immune booster?  I do have my blood tested every month to make sure my white count doesn't dip below 3.5  When I was on 50 mgm of the 6MP my WBC was 7.  Now the doctor has me taking 75 mgm of the 6MP because I  have had a flare every year for the last three years.  Sometimes I wonder about these drugs, if they are just a hit and miss (because no one knows the cause of UC).  I refuse Remicade (which my doctor was pushing for a few years).  I was exposed to the TB virus back in the 60's and Remicade can activate the virus which is dormant in my system.

I've been on Imuran over a year and have never been sick. I take a multivitamin, but nothing specific to boost the immune system.

hello! i've been on immuran since last spring (150 mg) and haven't had any infections because of it. i also have to get my blood tested every month to check my white blood cell count levels. my doctor tried lowering me from 150 mg to 100 mg over the summer and i think that this is the reason i flared again. after i went back to 150 mg, i started to get better. so with immuran, it's a balancing act but it's well worth it because for me it works! good luck!
