psyllium and gluten intolerance

Would psyllium like metamucil be considered a member of the Gluten family, and if someone were Gluten intolerant would metamucil not agree with them?  Any advice would help.

Unless the psyllium specifically states that it is gluten free, I wouldn't trust it.

Metamucil powder and capsules are gluten-free, but not the wafers

Is it at all possible Metamucil could cause D? I do not have any blood, limited mucus and slight urgency in the morning. It seems like when I take Metamucil sometims is casue D and loose stools? I know it it supposed to do exactly the ooposite...just asking if anyone has similar experience

I gather from what others have said you go through a period of adjustment, then it helps. I haven't tried it, fiber usually gives me urgency problems.

I was like that too with fiber. My GI told me to try taking metamucil to bulk things up but it gave me horrendous D. I never found out why though...

Try Citrucel (cellulose) - it's easier on sensitive digestions.

cellulose is also considererd hypoallergenic...definitely worth a try.

As well...don't drink excessive amounts of water. Moderation would be good...

Oh, make sure you don't take anything with artificial sweeteners in it.

I tried the Truvia brand of Stevia sweetener, and declare it good. Packets, so I knew how much to use.

how long would you say it takes to adjust to the metamucil?

Try the Metamucil Smooth orange .... NOT the sugar-free. I had very little problems with it if used after supper or after a meal that you don't have to take any meds.
