So in the past I would have bad flairs and end up in the emergancy room.  I would go in for constipation.  It was funny when I would endure the pain and wait till the doctor orders some other meds other than Morphine. Sorry I just don't think its sweet to come in to the ER and get some meds that make the pain worse. Yes there is a point to this I have found some meds that might work well for some people.

-Dilotted (sp?)

-Demeral (sp?)

These work for me. Don't know how to spell them though sorry. But I hope this helps people. I am of small stature so i normaly take half of the dose they normaly give people.When taking Dilotted i normaly take compasine (sp?) nausea med. But only because of the side effects. 

Bottom line Morphine should be avoided so tell the nurse you have UC and need a better pain med then Morphine. Trust me it is better to wait a little then to not wait and get sicker.

Hope this helps. If you guys have other pain meds that work well when in the IV form plz tell. :-)

just wondering why not morphine? I have had morphine in the hospital a few times when I had heart problems it never caused a problem with my uc. just wondering.It always takes my pain away so far so good.

People respond to medications differently. What doesn't work for you might work for someone else and vice versa. I am surprised that you can get such a heavy pain medication while suffering from constipation based UC. Pain meds tend to create constipation thereby making your situation worse?

One time I went to the ER by ambulance due to an adverse reaction to narcotic pain meds from an endo ablataion. When I got there, I was in excruciating pain. It felt like I was having birthing contractions x's 10! I already had vicodin, darvocet, valium and toradol in my system. They gave me more toradol when I got there and NOTHING was touching that pain. Relunctantly they gave me Dilaudid and boy was I finally in heaven! Of course when I got home I had dry heaves but at least I was out of pain. But, what I wanted to say that yes, everyone is different on how they respond to pain meds. I can't take Tylonel #3 or Tramadol because I have very bad reactions to it and it doesn't even help me but others can take that and not have any issues.

Im also surprised they gave you Dilauded. Talking to one of the Dr's, that stuff is about 10x more powerful then Morphine..and not to sound like a junky or anything, but i've received Dilauded twice in my life and it was truly heavenly. haha. Dont feel bad Red, I threw up the first time I took it also, but then after that I was good. :)

Dilaudid was some serious stuff. I am allergic to morphine so that is what they give me in the hospital. By FAR the best pain med i've ever had.

Ya i know meds affect everyone differently.  I guess i really wanted to know what other people had for pain meds. Yes pain meds are fun... redface

I was given dilaudid in the hospital. Wonderful stuff. Funny thing though... when i hit the 3 hour mark and the meds wore off I needed more. I became a 3 hour pain med patient.
