Do antibiotics make you flare or set back your progress with UC?

I have just had a sinus infection and was prescribed some Amoxyl and seems that it has set me back some.

Thoughts and comments?

Volsfan - You must be from Tennessee! Go Vols! Oh and welcome to our forum - you will learn alot from members here.

I have heard some people do have set backs w/ antibiotics - I am still too new to know whether they will affect me or not when the day comes I have to take them. I came down w/ this when I quit smoking - woke that wonderful bad bacteria up about 2 months into my quit - lucky me!

Anti-biotics kill bacteria indiscriminantly including the good healthy bacteria in your colon.
Cigaretes also have a compound that keeps the bad bacteria in check.

After anti-biotics make sure you replenish probiotcs with good bacteria, but I dont recommend you start smoking.

Thanks for the replies! I am going to stop the antibiotics and try the saline solutions instead!

Good idea, unless you really, really need them. If you do, take strong probiotics.
