Thank you all for your replies. I am waiting for my doctor to do a prior auth. and hoping to get on Lialda-once a day and only 4 pills vs. 12 pills a day, I just hated taking that many pills a day.
A little bit more about me. I am 33 yrs old. I don't remember the exact year I was diagnosed I'm thinking maybe 4 years ago, but then I went into remission for 2 years and then I found out June 2007 that I was pregnant with my first child so I immediatly quit smoking that day I found out and then my UC symptoms came back so I went back in for meds while I was pregnant and then after I had my son my symptoms went away so of course -me being in denial I just went along without taking any meds and then this past August I was eating sweet corn and got diareah and of course that triggered my UC symptoms to come back, then about a month ago I had another colonoscopy to see how much of my colon was affected, 23cm is what he told me, so he prescribed 12 pills of Asacol a day and Canasa enema at night--I did that for a Month and now I'm back into remission--no symptoms and am out of meds so I'm waiting for and praying for my prior authorization to go through so I can handle taking 4 pills once a day for the rest of my life but 12---that was too much!
I will not start smoking again, It is hard some days but I look at my son and just know I won't start back up because of him! I've been smoke free since June 2007!!
If anyone has found where they did research on UC patients that have quit smoking, can someone please send me the information. I've heard that there was research but I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks again for all the replies. Since I've found this website and forums for UC, It is so nice to know that I'm not alone and this is helping me come to grips that I have UC and that I will always have UC, even when I'm in remission.
