Mesalamine question

I'm on my second brand of mesalamine (Pentasa) and within hours of taking it I get severly nauseated and loss appetite. This happened on the last mesalamine drug I took. Is it possible to be allergic to all of these drugs? Any response would be appreciated.

Hi..it doesn't sound like an allergy, what is the amount you took and did you take it with food?

UC flares can cause nausea....I have nausea often. I do take an antispasmodic called dicyclomine.

Some foods can cause nausea..

What other meds are you on at this time?

Where in the colon is your UC, limited or throughout?

low in the rectum inflammation can cause nausea...if it's limited there.

It's not an unusual side effect - somewhere between 1 to 10 percent, apparently. I'd suggest talking to your doc if the nausea is severe, as he/she may want to try some alternatives.
