Asacol vs. Lialda

Anyone had Asacol work and Lialda not?  My doc asked if I wanted to switch to Lialda, but I am scared to mess with anything while in a flare and the Asacol appears to be starting to work.  Colozal didn't work for me at all, so I am wondering if the same thing will happen if I go to Lialda.  I will definitely wait to make the switch until I stop breastfeeding and am sure I am in 100% remission, but just wondering if anyone has had Lialda NOT work.  Thanks!

Unfortunately, neither Asacol or Lialda worked for me. I am pretty sure that Asacol and Lialda are basically the same medication. You just take fewer pills.  I know that the LIalda was much more expensive than  the Asacol.

Asacol did not work for me but Lialda did.  You take fewer pills of Lialda & it reaches further down in the colon then Asacol.  A lot of the inflammation in my colon is toward the lower part of my colon and the rectum.  Since Lialda is suppose to reach further down in the colon I think that's why it worked for me!

I was on Asacol for about a year and I was in remission and I had a check-up appointment and my G.I. doc told me about Lialda. I was super excited to try it because I was taking like 2 Asacol pills three times a day and if I'd get out of routine and miss a dosage, I'd worry about if I took it in enough time to not feel bad. Lialda is so convenient! You take it in the morning with breakfast and your set for 24 hours. It is more expensive than Asacol but they have this program right now where you dont pay more than 25 dollars for your prescription. Its been great to me.. When I flared up my second time after being on Lialda for quite some time, while in the hospital they gave me Asacol, not sure why but it didnt make a difference. I dont know about anyone else but fewer pills are always better to me! I hope I helped! smilewinkgrin

Thanks!! Anyone else have Asacol WORK and Lialda NOT work?? So nervous to change meds, but less pills are very tempting!

I've been on assacol for 6 years.Then I changed it to lialda.It was a big NO for me.I tryed twice. I am back now to assacol again. yeah carlos

Interesting. Colozal did not work for me and my last GI(I have switched now) told me Asacol wouldn't work as it was "essentially the same drug". He was WRONG, Asacol worked great. I am leary of these "same drugs" as I think they work differently on some of us. I'm sticking to Asacol for now. Why mess with a good thing?

Lialda has been working for me quite well and I only take 2 a day...so just trying it is half the battle.

i was taking asacol for 2 years when i switched to lialda (b/c they had a promotional discount - it was new at the time - and my insurance sucks, so it saved me some $$).  i was in a minor flare at the time.  i thought it sounded convenient...and ultimately the same drug as asacol...but my symptoms actually got worse.  i stuck it out, thinking it would turn around, but i continued to get worse.  i'm back on asacol now.  i will never take lialda again.  but, everyone responds differently to things, so you never know...it may work for you...

Same here! I switched from Asacol to Lialda and I had a bad reaction and it did nothing for my UC, I am back on Asacol.
