ok so i keep going through stages of cramps and a diareagh but no bleeding, i lose my appetite and my BM are different each day but never solid so far this has lasted for about
3 weeks. Is this actually a flare or just a blip? it's affecting activities with my friends and boyfriend and it's our anniversary on sunday but it's affecting what i do, what can i do?? i take imodiums when i need to but then i get blocked up and don't want to leave the house the next day in case it wares off when i'm out and have an accident......any thoughts??

are you still tapering pred?
how many oal 5-ASA are you taking I can't tell from your sig?
Are you using the predfoam? maybe consider to start again.
You could add a fibre supplement such as Metamucil smooth or the regular one...but don't get the kind that's sugar-free.
Are you taking any probiotics?
You do, however, need to get in with your doc to have another c-scope...it's been 3 years, and you really are due.

hi, no i'm off the pred now, sorry forgot to update my sig!! i take 6 asacol a day but will admit i haven't always fit the full 6 in but never less than 4 a day.
i;ve been to see my GI and have scheduled a colonoscopy for after xmas. i think it might be the beginning of a flare as it feels like it's getting worse. just gets me down cause i'm not seeing my friends and not alot of my boyfriend!!

Hi..do adk the doctor for Rowasa if you cannot use th epredfoam...or maybe ask for Canasa or hydrocortisone suppositories if you cannot use the liquid enemas.
I would suggest you take the Asacol twice a day...3 in the morning, 3 at night. That way, you won't forget your dosage.
Yes, probiotics are good for everyone to take.
Looking forward to hear how your scope goes...and what the doc will prescribe for you.
Please still try the predfoam again consistently at night...the period of discomfort may pass with improvement.

Huh?
Keep the probiotics, we need them. But I agree stop the iron, it will irritate anybody. Maybe try to get by without the prednisone until your colonoscopy... but if it's really ruining your holiday, jump on them again. (Try asking the docs office for an Rx, they will check with the doc and maybe even get you in).

Hi Lil,
I take it you're having quite a few BMs a day?
It may be worth trying a soluble fibre supplement (like benefibre) as this can bulk up the stools and slow things down in a kinder way than imodium. Doesn't work for everyone, but not too expensive an option, and the only negative reaction I've seen posted is a bit of extra wind while the body gets used to it. I'd suggest you have a chat with your GP or gastroenterologist about
taking Imodium - long term use can be dangerous, especially if you are flaring.
I've recently started taking Muller pre and pro-biotic low fat yoghurt - Tescos are doing a deal for 2 six packs for £3 at the moment. Don't know if it's having a huge effect, but they taste great to me, and it's a good way of getting some extra calcium.
I'm a bit surprised that you've not had a colonoscopy to determine the extent before now - blinking NHS. You should expect to have a scope around about
every 2 years to check on the disease's progress and make sure there's no other danger signs lurking.
Your doc may also want to up the mesalazine dosage to 8 x 500mg per day.
BTW, hope you've got a prepaid prescript
ion as well - can save quite a bit on the medicines.
