Cats and UC

Sorry to bring on a new topic, I feel there are alot of topics more important than this but howmany people have cats and also marine aquariums, silly you might say but there is a reason.

I have read that cat saliva is not good, and it can cause inflamation in the joints, how true i'm not sure but i do know that some allergic reactions to cats do include swelling in facial areas and throat, this happend to a friend of mine when he was house sitting while i was away.
The aquarium thing, i used to keep a marine aquarium and was told that the bateria in the water (hydrogen sulphide i believe, rotten eggs) can cause chronic dihorrea also what some of the corals secrete, how true again i'm not sure.

Goodness! I have two cats, always have had cats, also a dog when I was a kid.
I know cat poop can be dangerous for women who plan to get pregnant, I forget the name of the problem.
And my sisters-in-law have allergies and become miserable in our house almost instantly, even though it is professionally cleaned every week.

BTW, one of my cats had colitis, which was resolved when we switched to grain-free, natural cat food.
The other takes probiotics now as part of a treatment for a "hot gut" that made her body hot and was causing her to pull hair out of her back. Probiotics, chinese herbs of some kind and eliminating processed food helped her.

So I would not be surprised to hear some connection...

Quincy, i do not keep an aquarium now, we moved and had to get rid of it, also when we moved we had two cats but sadly died.
The aquarium was cared for and yes i probably didnt wash my hands properly so it makes sense for the ingestable option.
Peety, please god, dont get rid of the cats!!
There was no link to colitis on what i read its just the inflamation concern that i looked at, when i was ill i would look at any possible link or option that could make me ill but fortunaly for me i became better,
my only opinion is that UC is a digestive disorder that could be put right only if the correct foods were eaten and by no means do i mean to be flippant, this condition is seriouse, what worked for me may not work for someone else, i feel though however, that a constant flow through the bowel in such an abnormal way will eventualy have an effect on the internal tissue thus leading to an adverse effects.

I got IBD before having a cat or an aquarium...the aquarium I had for only a short time and I was not the one that took care of it when we had one.

I had an aquarium when I was younger too.

I LOVE my cats and would never, ever get rid of them! Even if it would cure me, I would not! They are beauties, and so loving. I always get my kitties from the humane society.
My husband loves them too but he has to wash his hands a lot and not touch his eyes because he is a little allergic.

cats....i dont want to even go there.... wife has one.... love that litter that sticks to their feet and tracks on stuff they walk on....mmmmm.... love the fact that they stand in a box with their poop, push it around, then walk on your bed....

Cats are actually very clean animals (most that I know of at least) when they're in the litter box they push clean litter onto their mess trying to avoid touching their own mess, at least that's how my cat is and when she comes out of the box she flicks her paws so litter isn't stuck to them and she pretty much always licks her paws shortly after comming out of the box too (does a whole cat bathing thing on herself)...besides which, I've never seen a cat eat it's own poop like I've seen dogs do.

I love my cats, they're cuddling with me right now! I'm pretty sure they cause me a lot less stress than most people do! =)
