vicky - I was diagnosed with IBS some 30 years ago and confirmed about
10 years ago with the sigmoidoscopy because I was having bout of diarrhea. I am 68 and have had to "watch" what I eat or suffer the consequences of IBS (diarrhea, heartburn- also have reflux - cramps, etc.)
The diagnosis for proctosigmoiditis came after bouts of bloody "D". Mine is confined to my rectal area now. So, when I have diarrhea I have to be concerned about what I ate, etc. as well as the inflammation. So far I have had good luck with lowfat/low sugar/low fiber. It digests the best and doesn't mess with my colon as much. Just sticking with what I KNOW I can eat is the hard part.
