Hey guys...
I'm writing this from home now, but yesterday I had to admit myself into hospital for the first time in 4 years.....
Some of you may recall that I've been having a bad flare up with serious constipation...Had 3 BM's in 3 weeks, all only with the aid of lots of laxitives...
Yesterday, the pain in my stomach, kidney pains and nausea meant that I couldn't take it any more, and I took myself to ER.
Spend all day yesterday in the hosptial having various enemas and fingers shoved up my bum. Not fun. They took X-Rays, and the exact words from the doctor were " Wow. Girl, you are full of poop! Like seriously, it's almost up to your throat!!" ( obviously I hope he was exagerating a little there....but it turns out I had filled my entire colon with poo....and none of it wanted to move anywhere!)
So the enemas and soap suds, Milk of Magnesia, Flax-Seed Oil, digestive enemas etc haven't worked. Now they are concerned that the scar tissue in my colon from the flare may have made a stricture in my colon, stopping the poop from moving anywhere and effectively, bringing my digestive system to a halt.
Due to it being a weekend (
) , they couldn't do a CT scan there and then, and so have booked one for Monday morning. It that seems to show a stricture, then the only cure is surgery....I'm so upset! I really am. Surgery means that I will have to start my University course all over again.....and as a mature student on a high pressure course, that is totally devestating to me. I moved to Canada because I passed an audition and secured a place in an Acting School, now my dreams are under threat.....
Oh, and they've also put me on Predineson...(or however you spell it!) 50mg.....just for a week I hope, until things (pray to God) get better for me....I really wanted to avoid that. I feel side-effects already ( feel really shakey, and my heart-rate feels raised). Due to the real possibility of hurting myself with a ruptured colon, they have put me on a liquid diet until Monday....or until bowel movments happen at a spectacular rate! So I'm living on meal replacement shakes (yum...not!), prune juice, fibre liquids and stool softeners. Oh and of course my UC meds too.
Anyway guys and girls, just wanted to vent out some frustration and sadness....sorry. Hope things are going ok for all of you . This is truely a nasty condition we have.
