Well this makes me really mad!

Good news! I just read that the FDA approved a drug to regrow and lengthen eyelashes! EYELASHES! Are you kidding me? Don't researchers have anything better to work on like maybe cancer, or maybe UC!! I know it might sound really mean of me, but when I read this it just struck me the wrong way! It seems the priorities are out of whack! Now that they have the eyelash issue taken care of maybe they can start looking into our POTTY issues!!!

P.S. - this was not meant to offend anyone, I know that some people have eyelash issues. I would just love to hear more about what is being done to help all of US!!!!!

I do agree that it is a little frustrating that those with eyelash issues are finding a cure. : ) Perhaps the eyelash research was a little more simple than our immune research? I do understand that there is more research focusing on our de-humanizing, bootie-focused disease, but really it's going to be a long time before anything miraculous comes our way. And for those like myself who have yet to be in remission and struggle with immune issues caused from medications, I'm going to take the cure offered. : ) That's just the right decision for me though.

Anyway, how wonderful that people with the lack of eyelashes can grow back what they once or never had. : ) Perhaps someday we could have colon transplants or back transplants (which I always joke about b/c mine is a beautiful 'S' shape). However, until then I'm going to take what is offered and be done with it!

Now, some research I have recently done, wrote a paper on and gave a presentation was on chronic illness and the family life cycle. It is so amazing how the struggles my husband, family and I have gone through is perfectly normal and expected. The biggest eye opener was the those of us with a chronic illness that can go in and out of remission (like us with UC) have two set life plans...one for when we're in crisis and we become dependent on our supports...and another for when we are able to live and thrive as an independent unit.

Okay...that's just my tid bit.

Totally off the subject, but I really like the Max Factor mascara...FYI. : ) I don't like waterproof b/c it feels like I have cement on my lashes, but so far, the Max Factor has been my fave.

I actually purchased a couple different ones and I like them both. No matter the brand I always try for which ever one is supposed the lengthen the most. : ) I have the issue where my lashes have color toward the root but are practically clear at the tips. It's crazy. Anyway, I also like the Max Factor b/c it won't break the bank. I use Bare Minerals for everything else (except concealer which I use Physician Formula b/c I cake it on at times to cover the dark circles and can't afford to keep bare minerals in stock for that purpose), and I just cannot bring myself to spending over $10 for mascara when it has a shelf life of only a few months. The eye shadows and face powders from Bare Minerals can last almost forever, so I justify those costs. : ) My husband supported my make-up costs as well once I explained it to him in that sense. : )

Anyway, I've been even more adament at keeping up on my make-up splurges since I've been super sick...it's good to feel good about yourself in one way or another when you have this ucky disease. My favorite treat is lip gloss...now that I can spend well over $10 for and no, I do not share that tid bit with my husband. : )

Oh and I do know there is alot of UC reasearch going on. My rant was intended to be sarcastic. When I saw the word "cure" in the headline followed by "eyelashes!" I just got a little jealous, and tickled! I know one has nothing to do with the other, I really hope those cosmetics researchers don't move on to UC research or we are in serious trouble! HA

My mother in law uses Bare Minerals because it covers her Rosatia (sp?) She is the one who turned me on to it! The nail salon I go to also does the false eyelashes that last for a few months. I think they are glued on, but they look really natural!

I don't have much sympathy for people who have cosmetic surgery; it's not necessary and most of the time not for medical purposes. I would love to have breasts a cup size or two bigger, but I'd never get surgery.

I wish cosmetic research would focus on "curing" sensitive skin. My skin is so sensitive that even Bare Minerals and other sensitive skin products can irritate it! Very annoying, especially since my skin tone is uneven.

A pharmacist told me that they don't always set out to develop a drug, sometimes they will set out to develop something entirely different, and in the process they'll discover other drugs to develop.

The example I was given was that a pharm company set out to develop a drug for hypertension, and after researching for a while they happened to stumble upon Viagra.

Great suggestions. I used to use Lancome, but never Guerlain...but expensive since I change my mascara every month. I've never used an eyelash curler..maybe I should consider since those straight ones drive me crazy (another thing inherited from my mom..lol).


I'm actually allergic to many mineral make-ups...made my skin very, very crepey and worse. I'm also allergic to many silicones (so much for those fake boobies) that are in more and more preparations for sensitive skin.

I already use the Lash Blast too..good one, but dries out quickly...the Lash Discovery by Maybelline is good too, but does flake...sigh.

I think that facial augmentation has gone to the dogs...when you look worse than before, that's scary. It's freaky to see the "new Hollywood" faces...
As much as I don't like getting old, I'll take it over any of those looks. ugh.

Scarlet...thanks for the expansion regarding the glaucoma med and longer eyelashes..interesting. Many meds do have positive side effects..inventions are an awesome thing if it helps.

Of course, some "cures" are perceived....like boiling live cats for virility...the more the animal suffers, the more the virility and energy in the soup. OT I know...but the bottom line is culturally and emotionally, many things that are believed to work will be continued as a cure for something. It will never end.

I'll stick to my meds and eat what I want, and continue to use make-up and hair products to have me looking and fooling the world that I'm OK!

Thank goodness for cheap products that work.

yep, can agree....my husband on occasion has said "don't wear make-up when you go to the doc...I think it fools them into believing you're better than you really are".

Nah...it'll never happen...but I might wear a colour of top that makes me look less better....lol!

That's funny because one of my doctors always used to tell me that I looked way too good to be as sick as I am. I just said, well that's good because if I looked as bad as I feel, I'd probably just never leave the house.
