colonoscopy prep

Are you sure they gave you the right prep? That sounds like it's for a sigmoidoscopy rather then a colonoscopy. Maybe you should call them tomorrow to double check.

My GI had me use a fleet enema for both the sigmoidoscopy and the colonoscopy. I asked him about the BIG bottle that I thought I was supposed to drink. He said it wasn't necessary.

Be happy you are required to only do the enema.

Even with fleet sig prep I still have to fast the day before.

Thanks to you all for the responses and support.I had a colonoscopy and not a sigmoisoscopy.I decided to do it without sedation and found it uncomfortable and quite embarassing. I couldn't wait to get out of the theatre.It was a team of specialist nurses who done procedure and not my doc, must be a new way of doing things:).
Anyway the nurse took a few biopsies and said that there was no roaring red inflammation(her words, not mine). she remarked to another student nurse my bowel was featureless and this was caused by having uc for so long.WHAT DOES THIS MEAN EXACTLY?
When she was asking me questions before procedure she asked if i smoked and i replied that i've been off them 12 days.She then asked me if i knew that quitting cigs would prpbably cause a bad flare. She said that it is very common for Ucers to have really bad flare ups due to quitting cigs. She then promised to get me my results asap so that i can start imuran before i flare badly.
I was home 45 mins after procedure, brilliant:):) i've had a lot of pain all evening but no bms, my back is sooo sore.Maybe it is trapped gas!!

I did a bit of research and found out what "featureless colon" means.I got this from another site, thought others might want to know what it is too.
Chronic inflammation in long-standing ulcerative colitis can lead to a "featureless colon," characterized by mucosal atrophy, muscular hypertrophy, and the loss of normal haustral folds, resulting in shortening of the colon and a decreased luminal diameter.
It has got me a little worried. maybe my colon is getting a little worn out and maybe not able to handle many more flares of this disease.

I don't think it's a good idea to leave the colonoscopy to a team of nurses. Complications can include perforation, bleeding, postpolypectomy syndrome, reaction to anesthetic, and infection. My GI is very gentle when he performs colonoscopies. In fact, the main reason for choosing a GI is his ability to diagnose correctly and perform sigmoisoscopies, colonoscopies, and colon surgery if needed.

I wonder the same thing, how much will our colons withstand? I looked at the pictures from my last one and compared it to one of a healthy colon- mine is completely smooth, and you can't see any veins in it (loss of normal vascular pattern, my doc called it), whereas the healthy colon had lots of folds/ridges and plenty of veins throughout. Kinda worried me a bit but I don't know what it really means.

Currently there is a volunteer recall of fleets phospho soda. Some are claiming it's causing kidney damage. I had to drink that NASTY stuff during both of my colon preps. I threw it up both times. I wont ever drink that stuff again. I suppose after the doctors learn more then they know what works best for a prep. Both times I did my prep I was just wasted and exhausted the next day. The last time I went in for my colonoscopy I almost passed out from dehydration. This will no doubt change the way they decide my next prep procedure.
