Dr. Dahlman's method, just want to share...

Personally..... my situation was miserable... I researched gluten free and UC combined. Decided to try it even though I had no "problems" with wheat. Tried and about 14 days later my symptoms were cut in half. Told doc, and he said he had tested me for this prob in the beginning and I was not allergic. But even he had no explanation for why this had definately helped. Said I prob was intolerant not allergic. Either way it helped. Then I tried the spinach and within two weeks was so much better it was not funny. Again doc said not sure why but if it helps it helps. He switched my meds 3 days ago, and next day... symptom free. Personally I think it was a combination of all these. His meds weren't working,,,,, I tried diet and got almost there. Then he switched to a different med and it took me the rest of the way( I hope). I know its way to soon to holler "remission" but after three days of normalcy again I excited and happy.
As for cure not cure? Personally again... wether or not a cure exists... and I hope the some day find one that doesn't involve surgery. We all live with this horrid disease and what ever gives up hope and helps us is worth trying. We all realise that it will be different for each of us, but if we do our research, nothing should be ruled out. Who knows what might help one or the other.

Rob, we have all walks of life that come here on Healingwell. We all have our own personalities, our own opinions and our own beliefs. You are going to find that we all never agree but on one thing......that UC is horrible! When someone comes on here and wants to share their success and how they got there that is wonderful. Because who knows? It may end up helping someone. The only thing that really bothers many of us that have Uc for a very long time is that when people throw around the word "cure". To us, it leads false hope to the newly diagnosed. Cure is a very strong word. There is no cure - simple as that. Sure we can control our symptoms but regardless if the symptoms go away for a long time, that person is still going to have UC. What we normally don't see here on HW are the ones in which this happens. They are out there enjoying their life with Uc only being a minor blip to them. So many of us here come to find support, suggestions and remedies to help them become one of those people.

You are more then welcome to share you views but keep in mind that we can not read the "tone" in which you post. Sometimes it helps to type in your post as you see fit, wait a second or two and reread what you write before submitting. I am also a very strong willed, strong minded individual and trust me I've had to do this too in the past.

Regarding the moderators...we are the same as everyone here. But because we feel we can help, we offer much of our time to moderate HW as volunteers. So moderators have to walk a fine line when it comes to helping others, making sure HW is ran as smoothly as possible by enforcing the forum rules as well as trying to find help for ourselves. You need to understand that moderators are not here to "police" your thoughts or opinions. You are more then free to share, we only ask that you don't throw that heavy word "cure" around.

Ok. Back to the debate about gluten and diary.

It's a known fact that some people's digestive systems are sensitive to gluten and diary. I'm sure that for many people, the SCD diet works. It's a good idea to try it, especially if you are still trying to figure out what (if any) foods your body can't handle. However, we shouldn't be telling others that gluten and diary are bad for us and that we should eliminate them from our diets.

For me, it's fructose that bothers my colon. I think my liver has trouble digesting it due to all the HFCS beverages I drank in the past. I will end up getting severe diarrhea if I eat anything high in fructose or with HFCS in it. If I eat foods that have certain artificial sweeteners in them, I will be able to hear a thunderstorm inside my abdomen for hours after wards. Eliminating fructose has definitely helped my condition; however, I don't tell others to stop eating it. Apples, pears, ... are healthy foods.

I've read all kinds of theories of pathogenic colitis causes everywhere from rotaviruses to bacterial mutant E. coli strains and everywhere in between. The only thing I have read about TB and UC is the risk Remi poses.

Just remember alot of this is just speculation and going back to the which came first the chicken or the egg story. Are infectious pathogens the cause or result of the UC inflammation environment?

As far as the triple antibiotic approach. I would have to be in the ER on my deathbed crapping pints of blood before I would let them put those antibiotics in me. Just my take on it...

The only problem I'm having is a need to "go" quite a bit every morning. I can't seem to take care of it in one trip to the restroom, it takes about 3 times (Christmas morning it was 5 times) to get everything taken care of. Then I feel fine the rest of the day! I'm not kidding. The real test will be once my schedule is back to normal on Monday. I'm finishing up a two week vacation so we'll see how I handle the hustle and bustle of my ridiculous schedule!

Bobbit,

Could you explain to me what "cured" you. What was your protocol ,what did you do.

And to Red _34

You can have UC for 40 years if you keep doing and trying the same things over and over... and of course you're going to think there is no cure.

But, if eventually you find that one thing that makes a difference and your UC goes away, you might think it's a cure.

Unfortunately, you haven't found it yet...and, well, me neither. But I am willing to try and try the weirdest stuff, because just maybe.....
