Hi all and hope you are well, a week or two ago I posted about my experience with pineapple and asked for someone to test it.

With not seeing in big capital letters on this board that is was a success, one would have to assume it was'nt, I'm going to leave it there on the theory and testing thing.

As I have sufferd this terrible torture, my thoughts will always be with you, there is hope, it can be beaten, because people like myself are living proof so never loose it, its the only thing that will bring a cure.

I will stick around to view any comments but will drift off  so God bless each and everyone of you and keep the candle burning,

He started a thread which mentioned something about the natural digestive qualities of pineapple... I tried eating it after every meal but it did nothing for my uc but may have aided my digestion

Eating pinapple everyday is very healthy especially as a digestive aid and although you wouldn't see benefits over a few days, weeks or months for your IBD doesn't mean that at some point it wouldn't be helpful....many times people try things for a short while and if they don't see results then they give up...I totally understand the frustration but it can take a long time for some things to really kick in and benefit actual UC symptoms.

     I ate pineapple while flaring last year and it did tend to help somewhat but not sure whether it was the pineapple or all the other meds I was taking at the time.  I still eat pineapple but not every day.  Salmon has the same effect...soothing to the gut.

 

     By the way Robert.....I see you went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes...how was it?

Hi Robert,

I'm not flaring. But I do plan to try eating pineapple after meals. I can't eat canned pineapple due to being fructose intolerant; so I just bought a fresh one from the food store. I hope it's not too sour.

I bought a pineapple two days ago. How do you know if it's ripe? Do you ripen it in the fridge or on the counter? Thanks.

Let it ripen on the counter, and when it's ripe you should be able to easily pull out one of the leaves on top. :-) Enjoy! I do like mine nice and cold though~

That would have to be a definite no for me.Pineapple is one of the few things that upsets my gut violently,whether flaring or in remission.Raw Chilli,no problemo.Pineapple,no way Jose!

Pineapple is high in acid so it can't work for everybody. You can buy papaya extract and stuff though from the health food stores so I wonder if you can do the same for pineapple.

I tried this a couple of years ago when people on this board were discussing the digestive properties of pineapple.  Tried it then and it gave me the worst acid reflux.  Too scared to try again - but glad it works for so many others.

Just started with some pineapple last night and some with breakfast this morning. My colon is really acting up today, but I don't know that it has anything to do with the pineapple.

Pineapple is okay by me.. I tried it fresh when I was flaring and I got better but I was eating lots of other fruits and shakes/smoothies as well. I let mine ripen on the counter as well.

Funny, Salmon has the opposite effect with me.  I used to love Salmon, but about 4 years ago I noticed that my innards started gurgling after eating Salmon...it feels liek the beginning of a flare when I eat it.  Odd...

     That is odd Trixy because salmon is on my list for food allowances while flaring...hmmm.  It is high in Omega 3's also.  Can you eat tuna?

Hi all and a special note to Christine1946, sorry i never posted earlier but been busy doing other things.
I went to lourdes around 85 time not long after live-aid Bob geldoff and the crew,anyhow Lourdes was a place that I would have never considerd because it was not me but I went along with an girlfriend at the time. I was about 18 and young and silly and the trip was with a catholic youth club (I was not religiouse in any way) but went along for my girl at the time and as to what to expect i did not know.The trip was a total success on my part because i did enjoy it, it had its high and low points though.The high point were that i was bathed in holy water (totally) and i met so many kind people, especialy the priest who travelled with the party (what a dirty football player ha ha) and the children from the club, they all took to me and we had a laugh, (there was a trip to a place called Givarni too) brief i know.
The low points, well there were not low but sad, I saw so much suffering, It realy hit home when i was on the sick procession, we travelled to the local hospital were many had travelled from all over the world and we helped them along to the shrine, this would be by wheelchair or by physical help, it did however give you some satisfaction knowing you were there to help and there was never any burden on you, it was a time when you did not matter but the person you were helping did, it was so emotional.
There is alot more to my experience but in short its a peacfull place to go,if you did not have peace with yourself when you arrived, you will certainly leave with it.

I just had some pineapple yesterday, and it did not bother me :) It looks like I'll be able to add it to my diet. I heard it helps reduce gas.

weird...when i ate pineapple regularly during a flare it would more often than not come out undigested.

Reminds me of my black cherry concentrate theory...didn't seem to help many others here, but it sure got me in remission quickly!! Still in 100% remission

Pineapple has digestive enzymes. It also contains bromilain, a very powerful anti inflammatory. Mostly concentrated in the core so best benefits would come from juicing it.
