So Im reading consumer reports yesterday and apparently "phlatates" found in Meslamine coated drugs are being discovered as bad for you and a ban may be in place soon.. Anyone else read the article?

Yeesh :( I haven't read it, but that figures. I'm always a little worried with these drugs that somewhere down the line they'll come up with something like this and be like "Oops! Guess what? This is REALLY bad and you should have never ingested it.... sorry..."

Did they say what the effects from it could be?

I just read it on consumer report.org the best I can make out of it is there biggest concern is with children and pregnant women. It says there is a lot of meds prescription and over the counter that has phlatates in them. and effects the hormone balance if I understood it right.

I just read the article. Isn't that great.

I guess I can't do anything...hopefully if they do enough research, they'll find a way to deliver the drugs but eliminate this product from it...

Omeprazole (sp?) is the other drug that looked affected..

I presume coated is pertaining to asacol, lialda etc because they are coated tablets but I'm wondering about pentasa since its not a coated tablet?

Contacted my doctor about this (at Mt Sinaii in NY). She said there's no problem with Asocol. That's a relief for me.

Harvard says Asacol is the main drug that has the phthalates..
