Any body builders with UC? Please help.

Hi, I am new here and was diagnosed with UC around june 08. I was taking work out supplements like creatine, whey protein shakes & no(nitric oxide) for about a half a year before I was diagnosed but stopped taking them because they were so hard on my stomach. After I was diagnosed I was put on asacol and it started working right away. about 4 months later my stools started to get loose again and I tried a new protein supplement and it gave me the most horrible stool I've had for a while, that was about 3 weeks ago and I've had a flare since. I'm on prednisone for 50 days now along with the asacol(4 pills 3 x a day). Pretty much what I'm wondering is if anybody knows a good protein supplement that won't be in the toilet an hour later? I eat a lot of protein foods but it's just easier to have a couple shakes a day so I don't have to cook so much and eat so much. I was also thinking of just buying pure protein powder that does not have any other stuff in it but I hear it's pretty fowl for shakes. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I take the designer whey protein.  It has all natural ingredients and I haven't had a problem with it.  I avoid creatine, rip fuel type stuff as it says that it can cause problems for those with intestinal problems.

ryanf: No I don't compete I've just been lifting for like 8 years. Protein is all I want in the workout supplement area now. I'm never touching creatine or any of that other stuff again.

kmach: Thanks for the heads up on the designer whey I have heard about it and will look into it more now.

vin: I was just wondering about protein supps because I'm 6'1 185 right now and I was at 205. It's hard for me to take in 180-200 grams of protein a day with just food. Isn't it supposed to be 1 gram of protein per pound?

Look for stuff called "All Max" Quick Mass NP5, it's 1010 calories per serving and it helps to gain lean body mass, it's basically just extra calories for helping to bulk up (increases calorie activation) and it doesn't have creatine (which can cause D if you take just a little too much of it) so it's safe that way, just full of nutrients and helps you gain weight quicker, but won't make you fat if you're working with weights.

How much do you get with this? It doesn't give a size or quantity in the item description.

I checked to make sure it is a 2lb container and has 32 servings!!

I haven't been around for awhile and just stopped in today and saw this subject. I've been working out on and off for 17 years (I'm 36) and have had UC for 4 years now (actually symptoms started this month). I had a big surgery for complications 2 years ago this month and am training hard again. I currently train 6 days a week, doing cardio 3 times and weights 6 times. I use BioX protein powder and have found no problems whatsoever with it.

As for other supplements, I found the Nitric Oxide products TERRIBLE for my stomach since I got this illness. Creatine causes very mild D for me, manageable, but worth it for the benefits, and found zero problems with Glutamine...In fact I feel better when taking Glutamine.

I am 5'10", 180 lbs and find this to be the ideal weight for my height and body type. I work shift work (I'm a Police Officer) with very long shifts, and train at odd times, yet I am pretty lucky I guess because I can pretty much eat anything (other then the hot spicy food I used to love so much). I have found (both pre and post UC) that eating 6-8 small meals a day keeps my metabolism good, my body weight steady, and my energy level high. I wouldn't get overly concerned about the protein levels per se.....You have to eat what works for you...I found that force feeding, or forced dieting, other then being no fun, is actually counterproductive. Just eat a lot of small, protein rich meals, with good carbs, and low fat and you should be fine.

When in a flare, I drink a LOT of extra water (i usually drink 10 cups a day anyways), and increase my carbs a bit when feeling good. This brings my bodyweight (and a bit of fat) up, but it helps me ride out the flares a bit when i start to get the D. Also, due to the nature of my work and not always being near a washroom, have made it a habit to eat more on my days off, and eat less on work days.....which helps me ride through the shifts too........

If anyone finds any good protein products (obviously without spamming the site with a ton of ads) we would all appreciate it! :)

I am not selling anything! Forgive me that I have found something I think is great! I spent a lot of time and wasted a lot of money on terrible products. I wish I could of found someone to point me in the direction of something good. I wanted to help others I know the struggle. So again I gain nothing from this I just wanted to share with others!! Im a stay at home mom. Who got into health and fitness to live longer for my son! Im offended!!!!

No worries!I enjoy helping people before I decided to stay home with my son I worked at the hospital. Helping people is in my nature tho I dont always know how to go about it! I was impressed and excited thought this would be a good way to share with strangers who may be searching!! Soliciting not my thing!! I will keep my thoughts and findings to family and friends!!
