Rant: nose keeps running nearly nonstop!

Yesterday I felt a viral bug coming on; it started with some soreness in left throat/ear in AM. Then it changed to heavy sneezing, watery left eye, & constantly running nose. about the only time nose stops dripping (disgusting, yeah!) is when I lie down. I've had a few random chills, but no other major discomfort. Any way to deal with nose other than waiting for the bug to run its course? Anyone else dealing with this now? (Misery loves company dept.) / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Thanks, Sherry! This is a real devil. I couldn't even read yesterday because my eyes watered so much, in addition to nose. Lucky that Colazal has kept my intestines behaving so far. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Yuck that's the worst! How can your nose be so stuffed you can't breathe out of it but it can run like a faucet? I'll probably regret saying this but I haven't been since all winter but I definitely feel your pain!

I hate the smell, but that Vicks really does the job to clear up the sinuses! Hopefully this cold will pass quickly and not cause any distress to your intestines.

 The Neti pot is the way to go. My husband has always gotten horrible sinus infections. Since he started using the Neti pot he hasn't had  to be on antibiotics at all. Whenever he feels a cold or sinus congestion coming , he uses it.

 Even my eight year old daughter uses it , for her sinuses.

I got a neti pot, haven't needed to use it yet but I saw one so got it because I have heard many great things about them.
I don't know where you live, but here you have to get the good decongestant - psuedoephedrine -- products behind the counter and sign for them (because it's used to make meth). The stuff on the counter uses a substitute decongestant and it's useless!
I rely a lot during colds on the nose spray antihistamine, because it WORKS. I get the 4-Way, because you can use it every four hours. I know you have to be careful not to use it too much or too long, or it will make your runny nose worse instead of better. But it helps me SLEEP, not because it makes you drowsy like antihistamine pills but because I can breathe.
Oh, and I find massages help, too! Treat yourself!

Thanks, Sara! I was able to go to work Friday, all bundled up against the cold weather & armed with paper towel in case I resumed sneezing, etc. But I didn't, great! I'm still a bit congested & have less appetite than usual (maybe advantageous 'cause I can stand to lose 5 lbs.), but I did some errands over the weekend and enjoyed a walk in 50 degree sunshine this afternoon. Finally some decent weather!!!!!!!! Wow. Hopefully, the worst of winter is now behind us & viral bugs will leave town for a good while. Just to be on the safe side, though, I bought a new original Afrin nasal spray & checked to see where Claritin is sold locally, with Sherry's advice in mind. I would definitely try C. should this happen again-- but I still need to run that by my gastro before buying. Went to the doctor this morning. It's bronchitis that is trying to progress to pneumonia. I have an antibiotic, decongestant, cough syrup, and have to do breathing treatments 4-5 times a day. I'm hoping this antibiotic doesn't wake up UC. I haven't had any trouble with Levaquin or z-pack in the past. He's got me on Avelox. I have no experience with it and he said it's a strong one.

I need to get one. I was going to get Digestive Advantage Sustenex. I thought people on here said to wait until the antibiotic is finished to add the probiotic. It's only five doses so including today I have 4 more.
