Health insurance is usually mandatory for f.t. undergrads. With grad students the universities generally assess fees to insure full-timers unless they can supply proof of comparable coverage. You are subject to institutional rules so the quality/price of coverage varies. I met some real idiot residents who were used to staff the university student health offices where I attended grad school. Don't let me discourage you, but attendance at these places is not the way to get great insurance. One is lucky if it's adequate. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
