Hi guys! We are planning to go on vacation to Mexico with my husband and baby son. yeah We haven't been on vacation for sooo long, and I don't want to screw it up for my family. I'm good now, but I'm scarred to get flare on vacation. Any suggestions what should I take and do while I'm there, any precautions? Any advises and experiences welcome. :-)

#1 - Do not drink the water! Drink bottle water if you can. Make sure to pack extra meds, especially rectal. But you know what I found out? When I am on vacation, I actually feel better! It's like my body forgets that it has Uc and I usually have a really great time.

Red, do you think their bottle water is better? :-)) Last time when we went on vacation, I had bigest flare in my life! And i have not known yet that I have UC, I thought it food poison :-)) I was in the bed most of the time... So, this time i want to enjoy it!!!!!

I don't know what the flight regulations are, unless you are driving? But can you bring your own bottle water from home? LOL I don't know if their bottle water is any different or better but I would like to think so :)

Bottle water or corona! Bring your own bottle water if possible, who knows about theirs unless they have bottled water from here. Last time in mexica I ate a fish taco and got sick bad for the night. We would usually bring our own bread and sandwich stuff, of course we drove and rosarito/ensanada is very close to the border of cali.

I hope you have a wonderful time, but I think Mexico is the last place I would try to go as a person with a digestive disease. Since the baby probably doesn't care, was this your husband's idea and are there other alternatives? You haven't had this for long so I hope you know what you are doing. Sorry to be a downer, but this would be downright dangerous for me.

Peety, how Mexico is the last place to go? Or you mean if I have UC I can't leave the house further then 10 miles? I do NOT agree!!!!

I really hope you are fine.
There are things in the water there -- and therefore in all the cooking there -- that our bodies can't handle. Mexico is notorious for it -- Montezuma's revenge and all. Digestive upset like that is guaranteed to be really hard on our vulnerable digestive systems and given a choice I would go ANYWHERE else for vacation. It wouldn't be worth it to risk spending the next few months trying to get out of a flare. Just not worth it.

I'm actually going to Cabo in late March as well.  I'm staying at an americanized resort but am a little nervous about.  Hopefully everything goes well...

Rifaximin is used to treat traveler's diarrhea. It kills e.coli but not other bugs. Maybe you could talk to your GI about getting a prescription to take while you're there. It's also used for people with IBS to help w/bloating, etc. My old GI prescribed it for me because he said some people with UC have good luck w/it helping their symptoms. It might be worth a shot to start a course of it before you go and remain on it while you're gone. Best of luck to you, I hope you have a wonderful trip.

Resorts are fine!   There business is tourists so they are not going to jeopordize thier business by serving food/water that is contaminated!

Tap water is usually not drinkable and that is why they provide bottled water.  Food is fine as resorts usally have a type of filter system for the water they use for cooking to ensure that food is fine.

Stay away from tap water (including brushing your teeth, and dont drink any while showering) and you will be fine.

I was in Egypt last March. I'm sure Mexico can't be worse ? :-)
No problems at all. Well I - like everybody else - had a little "thin stomach" but nothing UC related.
