Asacol question

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask a quick question about Asacol. I'm taking 12 pills a day along with 30 mg of prendisone and cortcol enema's. I recently ran out of the ascaol 2 days ago and my mail order pharmacy hasn't delivered the new meds yet. i was wondering if it was wise to stop "cold turkey"? last night i had the most unbearable joint pain in my knees where i couldn't sleep. they actually still hurt to move now. i was wondering if not taking the asacol would cause that or would it be another side effect of prendisone?

Asacol is a strange fish. I once had all my Asacol stolen in Costa Rica and went almost two weeks with no problems (I even had some booze). However, I switched to Pentasa for a few days when I ran out about eight months ago and although I got more within a week, I have been in a flare up ever since. I would try to slowly ween off the prednisone before stopping Asacol. And I think cold turkey is a bad idea as well. The shock to you body is hard on it.

i was on 12 a day and them started 6-MP...the Asacol was increasing the effects of the 6-MP on my liver so my doc had me stop Asacol flat ASAP...I have been taking Asacol for years...in the past week since I have stopped I have been feeling worse...more bleeding etc. so I have a call in to the doc today to see what we can do.

Asacol shouldn't cause any kind of withdrawal symptoms like those you get by stopping something like Prednisone cold turkey; however, stopping it means you're not getting the meds you need, so you may see an increase in symptoms. 

Indiana - Do you think you had the panic attacks because you were stressed/nervous about stopping meds cold turkey?
