Hi Elaine, I started a new topic - didn't want to highjack the other one. Another option for enemas is a 2% lidocaine (or xylocaine) jelly. The Salofalk enemas started causing more bleeding for me and the steroid ones weren't working for me at that time. I noticed differences within a couple of days of using the the xylocaine enemas. I used them nightly for 2 months and my remission has lasted 1.5 years so far. I use budesonide enemas every 4 days for maintenance now.

Thank you Tara - truly looking for a suppository suggestion since I have a problem "applying" the enemas - not keeping them in but getting them in there.  Anyway, you can take mesalamines too which helps you I know.  I am only on prednisone because of all the side effects of ALL the others.  I am thinking maybe suppository stronger than Canasa - more small amount of steroid maybe - just to sooth the rectal area.  I am still having some discomfort and mucous - small amount!  Maybe those used for hemmroids?

I did a quick google search and it appears that lidocaine suppositories are made. Give you doc a call and see if he can prescribe one!

Not sure about lidocaine suppositories - I now lidocaine is for pain - my husband had patches for this back.  I do not have pain - just want to hurry the healing along in rectum. However, they might help - will as my NP.

Do you buy the lidocaine/xylocaine enemas or make them yourself? If you make them please describe.

I bought my xylocaine ready made in tubes and I squeezed it into a rectal syringe to use it. There was another member (scooterk) who was making the enemas by mixing lidocaine HCl, water and maltodextrin as the gelling agent. Here's the link to that thread:
