How long til prednisone works and other questions.

Your right. What is stopping me is the breastfeeding ironically. I have done research on how enema meds can still get into breast milk. So I am scared that somehow if I do the fecal transplant that it may some how effect my milk in a negative way. I also reasoned that during the time while I did the fecal transplant I could pump and dump my milk, but for how long and who could I ask? People outside the Ulcerative Colitis world think that I was/am a nut for this. Many non UC'ers don't understand the pain and desperation that we have and experience and what we are willing to do to alleviate it (ie enema transplant). Believe me I think about fecal transplant a lot I am scared of the affect on the little one. But since you have asked you are making me think more about it again. I think I will do some google searches to see of there is any information out there on it being done on breastfeeding or pregnant mommies. Thank you for asking and causing me to brainstorm again.

It's just putting poo from your baby up the butt. I really don't see how it could affect your milk, especially when the poo is from your baby.

The two of you are already sharing germs--that's why your baby makes the perfect contributor for fecal transplantation done in the home and without going through any testing procedures. There is probably nothing that your baby has that hasn't come from you.

I think it is kind of like a black box. Everyone has heard that there is a good chance there is something great in that box, but they are scared of opening it.

The last time my son took prednison it took almost 2 weeks to work. What we finally figured out in his case was that he was taking it too early in the morning. When he started waiting to take it until late morning when the bathroom trips slowed down, it started working. Doctor figured it was washing through his body without being absorbed when taken early (because mornings were so hard on him with so many bathroom trips). Did that make sense?

Sorry you are going through such a rough time! Especially with a baby to care for.

It sure sounds like you are having a really tough time right now. If I remember right you just started the LDN in the past month, as well as starting the pred recently? Be patient and let one or the other start to work. You are on a decent dosage of pred, but if it isn't helping yet (it usually starts helping me the day I take it) try taking it at a different time of day. I know it says to take with food, but I always took it on an empty stomach, but it never made me nauseous.

As far as eating goes, if you are breast feeding, it is imperative that you eat and that you eat nutritionally. You probably know that but sometimes a reminder helps. Your baby is counting on you for nutrients and if you are starving yourself, you are starving your baby as well. Low residue might be easier on your stomach, and if you can handle baby food (which it sounds like you are) try eating that. Accidents happen, but if you are really having a hard time right now, the second you get the urge to go, RUN to the bathroom! Don't try to hold it until you are ready...you're body is telling you that you are ready! It might also help you to hang out at home as much as possible. Easy access to a toilet.

You live in CO right? This is one of the driest places I've lived. Even with drinking tons of water every day I still get dehydrated. Sounds like you need to drink a lot more, both for yourself and your baby. One thing has helped me some was getting a humidifier. I run it mainly in my bedroom when I'm sleeping, but the moisture it produces helps me to stay a little more hydrated. Just a suggestion.

I really hope that you start to feel better soon. This disease sure kicks the crap out of a person, doesn't it?
