UC...RA...now cervial dysplasia and HPV!!

I'm a 21 year old female who has had UC since I was 16 and then diagnoised with RA when I was 18. I've recently have been having abnormal PAP smears with HP and now possibly dysplasia. I'm wondering if any other females out there have had a problem with this? I'm also wondering if my ^MP and humira I am on might be preventing my body from fighting the HPV and dysplasia.

I've had so many problems with my UC and RA and now I have another bump in the road sad. I am very stressed and worried. I would love to know that maybe other women out there have had the smae problems as me and that I'm not alone. I really want to get of the 6MP. I'm told that with the Humira and 6MP that I am being over treated. Too many problems in my family with this stuff. My twin sister was just diagnosed with Crohns and my father has IBD and RA. I'm wondering if any of my diseases have anything to do with my body not being able to fight off the HP and now pssibly dealing with dysplasia.

Any other women facing this problem??

Hi...HPV sexually transmitted if you're talking genital. Many of the HPVs can cause cervical cancer. The now dysplasia that you have can be dealt with through cryosurgery or laser or whatever is used now-a-days.

Were you diagnosed with dysplasia through a pap smear? You'll have to have a biopsy (punch) to see the extent/depth, then have the decision as to what treatment.

I went through the same thing at 25.

I cannot comment on the humira regarding the HPV...but are you on treatment for HPV as well?

If you have cervical dysplasia, get it dealt with soon.

It's unfortunate you're going through so much at a young age.

I can relate to the familial hereditary conditions as well....

My advice is for you to do as much research on the HPV and cervical dysplasia, know exactly the plan the doctor has and enquire as to the HPV treatment and possible prevention through meds. Of course, some may interfere with what you're on already..

Hang tough, it will be overwhelming for a while.

I've had HPV for about a year now and there is no cure. The only thing I can do is hope my immune system gets rid of it and then try to get the HPV shot to prevent the cancerous strands of the disease. My gyno decided to do a coloscopy because of the abnormal paps and HPV. They did take a biopsy just this past week and went in deeper to take a deep tissue one. The gyno said its possibly dysplasia. I'm waiting for the results now and am freaking out. I would really like to get off the 6MP; I've heard being on it and Humira can cause certain cancers of the lympnoids.

I have always wondered if HPV is related to UC. Not much media attention on that and also on what effect it has on men, beyond scattershot snippets here and there.

I've seen some studies about it. But most it correlates with the fact that when you have UC you're on immunosuppressants which lowers the immune system to fight off HPV naturally. It has to be because of the immunosuppresants I'm on and that's why my body can't get rid of it.

Blu021, I started having abnormal paps at 47. For an entire year I kept having them when they had been normal before that. My gyn finally did a colposcope procedure on me and found CIN 1 dysplasia. I had the cryotherapy procedure in December 2007 and since then my past 3 pap smears have been normal and I also had the HPV virus show present, first time ever. Now I am HPV negative. Things will be fine. I only had the type that causes cervical cancer.

I hope so. I'm pretty sure I picked up the virus from my ex....and its been following me ever since. Had a few warts too but they went away. I just hope I can still have kids...I'm only 21 but I'm thinking about my future and I would really want kids someday...

Remember, cervical dysplasia is a long way from having cervical cancer. My gyn told me mine would never get to that point with early treatment. Keep your chin up. Your's probably is early stage. My gyn said it would take 10 years for it to get to the cancer state. I remember her saying that.

Early treatment, as wit's end commented, being the optimum statement.

Dysplasia means there are changes happening in the cells...not necessarily cancer, but for women, cervical cancer is a huge risk, and getting rid of those cells is what needs to be done. One would not want to wait until hyperplasia comes into the diagnosis.

Let us know the outcome of the results.

I had an abnormal pap 9 years ago (when I was going through my first UC flare tho I didn't know what it was at the time). I had a colposcopy then had the LEEP procedure to remove the abnormal cells. I've had normal paps since. I went on to have 2 children with zero problems.

I had abnormal paps several times althougth my 20s.  Then at 27, had to have cryosurgery, which didnt help and then finally a cone biopsy to remove what my Dr called severe dysplasia.  I didnt develop UC until after this and I tested negative for HPV every time tested so I cant comment on the drugs effect with HPV or dysplasia, but just wanted to let you know that my annual paps in the 10 years since the cone biopsy have all been normal and the Dr even said that 1 year after there was no visible scarring on my cervix.  I have since had 2 pregnancys with no complications.  So please dont worry, I think cervical dysplasia is quite common now and it is very treatable.
