No way can Pred. be working this fast

You can not tell me that after one dose of 20mg of Prednisone that I would be feeling this much better.  I stopped the Rowasa last night and have yet to run for the bathroom this morning.  When I was using the Rowasa I had to hit the floor running in the morning.  The first 2 hours of the morning were absolutely miserable with cramping and running to the bathroom. 

Can the prednisone actually be helping already or is all the cramping and running for the bathroom in the morning a side effect of the Rowasa? 

Also is there anyone here that has used Rowasa, Asacol and Prednisone at the same time?

When I took prednisone the first time, it worked very fast like you said! Just be glad that you are feeling better!

Prednisone has always worked that fast for me. I'll sometimes take one pill on rare occasions to get me through the day. It is truly a wonder drug, at least for me (and apparently for you!).

Yes, this was my experience with prednisone too. One dose and I felt like a new person.

Yes way, pred will work that fast....there is a reason it's prescribed! Enjoy the relief before the side effects set in. Todays easy AM could also be related to the fact that you didn't do the enema- when you put something in, it's gonna come out! But overall, I'd say it's the pred doing most of the good work right now.

Yes, it works amazingly fast, especially when you're using it for the first time.

But you've got to get off of it quick because your body will grow a tolerance to it pretty fast. The second and third times I've been on it (months to years apart) yielded much slower and less significant results than the first time.

Thanks! I do feel much better. I am terrified of the side effects. I am on 20mg right now. Can anyone share the side effects they have experienced.

Maybe you should do the hydrocortisone enemas instead of the rowasa. It's like sticking pred up your rear, and without the side effects

Yes, it's the pred. Last time I took it, it was like flipping a switch. I've taken it before when it wasn't so effective. I think it depends on how bad your symptoms and inflammation are rather than how many times you've taken it.

Same here . . .the last few times I've been on prednisone I started it early afternoon and didn't have another BM until the next morning.

Oh, that wonder drug we love to hate.  So far I don't hate it but sure someday I will - like most everyone else who goes on it.  Took me about 3 days - after trying every mesalamine, suppository, enema, etc. etc. in the world - to stop the bleeding.  Have not seen blood since Feb. 2 and now tapered to 20 mg. for 10 days - no problem.  How can you NOT like it at this point.  My doctor, of course, told me he would taper me to as low as possible without the symptoms and add 6 MP (on 6th day of that).  Too bad some of us can't find something LIKE prednisone to take the rest of our lives without all the long term problems!  Hey, maybe a cure - for my great-grandchildren, I hope!

Yes, it works fast.

My advice, don't ask everyone about all their side effects, or you might mess with you head!
Power of suggestion and all that.

Just know that it makes you feel funny...
I don't get too many effects from 20 or 15 mg, maybe you won't either.

It generally works fast which is why it's a great med to take on trips for those "just incase" times.

Just wanted to say one more thing!  Even on 40 mg. I had NO side effects, no funny feelings, nothing but relief - we are all different so trying something can be worth it!

Funny Peety, I compare prednisone stories to labor horror stories, everyone has a bad one that they want to tell you to put you in a panic.   

OP - I think you'll be fine on 20 mg, if you were on a higher dose than you'd be more prone to side effects.

Thanks everyone. I found it hard to believe the relief would be that quick. I have felt great today. My biggest problem today is some mild cramping in the left side. I haven't had the left side cramping when I was on Rowasa. Just wondering if I really should of gone off that when starting the prednisone or if I should just just stayed on it and added the prednisone. Any thoughts?

I've only been to the bathroom...get this....1 TIME....since getting up at 5:45am.

Pred is generally a booster drug used in conjunction with maintenance drugs until the maintenance drugs kick in, or pred is used for short term relief, meaning as you taper down, symptoms will more than likely re-appear, especially if your not on maintenance drugs.

For the record, when pred used to work for me I never had side effects other then a little acne on my back (one time) which didn't last long, unfortunately pred no longer has any effect on me now.
