Just was wondering what was the time frame to have a colonoscopy after you are diagnosed with uc? Its almost been one year for me??

I'm currently told 3 years by my GI practice, depending on symptoms.  Others have said once a year.

I think it all depends of the doctor. Some do them relatively often and others less so and others utilize the sigmoidoscopy in between colonoscopy. An experienced doctor, I assume, would be able to treat us based on symptoms and blood work for the most part without having a looksee. (thank goodness!)

my docs typically want one every year or so...i've come to realize that as long as they knock you out completly they are no big deal. The prep is the worst part and that does suck! but the scope itself is nothing

i think they are a big deal b/c of the cost. how much do you all generally pay. my initial colonoscopy 4 years ago cost me $3K and that was with insurance.

Every two years, but we wait until I'm doing OK because it irritates. Mainly to nab polyps.

Our insurance will cover "routine" colonoscopies 100%, but I have to pay part of the cost of mine because they are "diagnostic." Isn't that crazy? I think it was about $200, still not bad.

It would be nice to get another colonoscopy, because I recently had a bad flare. But I don't think it's necessary. The flare was just like the second one, only not as bad. I had a colonoscopy done two years ago. I think I'll wait a couple more years before getting another one done, baring any more flares that is.

$3000? I nearly fainted. My doctor likes to do the colonoscopy once a year but with insurance it only costs me $35. I could never have them at that price. I never thought we needed nationalized health care until I started reading this site.

God Bless...CANADA!! $0 per colonoscopy. I've only had two so far. My GI wants to have one every 3 years. I had my latest one last year prior to the 3 years because the salofalk pills/enemas and cortifoam were not working and he believed that the UC was moving up the colon which concerned him. I am on mezavant now and it is working well.
