Hey all, haven't been real frequent around here but love coming here. I am wondering if we all pre-flare (if there is such a stage) in a similar fashion. I have been , for a couple weeks now, increasing in urgency(trips), gas, and passing mucus. Would we agree that this is the very early stage of a flare...?? I have not had an all out flare in 3-4 years, THANK GOD!! I have been 98% symptom free for a couple years now, but I have had a few of these pre-flares? or mild flares? or whateveryouwannacallits...God Bless you people, my brothers and sisters in IBD!!

It's not a preflare...it is a flare...mild I would say.

Flare is in incriments of severity and symptoms...some don't recognise them before "their" criteria of flare.

Just call it a flare...you should start the rectal meds asap.

My "pre-flares" vary. Sometimes, it is just noticing a little bit of blood on the toilet paper. Other times I get somewhat constipated first. My bloating and gas increase but I feel like I can't go to the bathroom and I want to.

Not too sure if this would help, but I've noticed that before I get a flare, any photos taken of me look awful, my skin looks sallow, my eyes are sunken and I look positively skeletal in the face - even if I have not lost any weight. I now regularly take photos of my face every month just in case I don't recognise a 'pre-flare' happening. The last flare landed me a 2 week stint in hospital Feb 08 with some heavy duty blood transfusions.

One pre-flare sign for me has been a sudden sleepless night with no evident reason such as noise, worry, etc. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently fighting off flare in sigmoid colon)
