Help with quit smoking flare please??

Of all the information I have found, it seems that smoking doesn't cause colitis but rather protects the colon thereby preventing flare ups. On the other hand, there is also medical information stating that smoking may worsen Crohn's disease.

I am about to try this...

A brief History: Smoked for 12 years> started running and quit smoking for 15 years> Started smoking 2 years ago to treat UC.

So I was diagnosed in Dec of 1999, but didn't start the smoking until 2 years ago. I didn't desire or WANT to be a smiker again but wanted some relief from the UC. I have been 96% symptom-free for the 2 years...I want to stop smoking again, BUT am really averse to the flares again...it is so flippng depressing and nasty. SO, I may be able to answer your question after my experiment :-)

I am really interested in finding out how it goes. Also, it seems that after a week of 30mg Prednisone my flare is starting to subside (bleeding) but gas and mucus is another story. When does that go away?!! I still have another 8 days of enemas left and will continue to use those until gone I guess and hopefully the reduction of Prednisone won't be a problem.

Is it common for first time flares to be this hard to get rid of?

Chantix is one of those medicines which help in getting over smoking habit, but this medicine has some side effects as well. Person using chantix mainly encounter sleeplessness, change of taste and headache but these side effects diminish with time. So people should consult there physician before going for this medicine. It works on the body by giving you the same feel good effect and hence reduces the craving for nicotine.
