Should I give up on entocort?

My PA (can never get in to see the doctor anymore) was very reluctant to put me on predisone, so she insisted I try entocort first--9mg.  I didn't have high hopes for it, but I thought I'd give it a shot.   I've been using this for 7 days and haven't seen even the slightest improvement.  Didn't expect to be symptom free, but expected something to improve.  Do I need to give it more time?

My symptoms are always different every time I have a flare.  This time, it's every other day.  I seem to totally empty out one day, and the next I'm fine since I get empty.  Then the cycle starts all over again.  I'm also doing the rectal foam at the same time and it's not working either.  I'm not able to retain enemas due to excessive gas.

I have been on entocort twice now in my 7 years with UC. I didn't see results until about a month after taking the 9mg dose. At that point I only stayed on it for another 30 days then tapered down over a few weeks. I have had pretty good luck with it so far.

However, the most recent time I took it I also started the spinach/sunflower seed diet mentioned on this forum. I had excellent results with the diet. So I would say that the entocort got the healing process started without all the awful side effects of prednisone, and the diet took me into remission.

So give the entocort a chance for a few months before you give it up.

I can't wait a months to see some sort of improvement.  I can't leave the house in the morning.  I'm so glad to be out of work right now.  Guess I'd better go buy some sunflower seeds and spinach.

Don't give up just yet. I am currently on Entocort and it took me about 2 weeks to see a difference, but it was literally overnight. I went from full symptoms one day to solid stools the next. It has been my miracle drug, hopefully it works for you! Good luck!

I have the same experience as shortstuff. 10 days to 2 weeks and bam! the stuff kicks in. No side effects either.

Dont give up. It does take longer to work, but in the end it is better than pred.

I have been on 9 mg of Entocort for a little over a month now and I have seen no improvement.  Maybe a little less bleeding, but still 9+ stools a day, urgency, cramping, etc.  I would give it a least a couple of weeks, but if you see no improvement after that...it is probably time to try something different.
