This is gross, but I have a boil in the crease of my inner leg (near my vaginal area). I've NEVER had one before and wondering
if this is another one of those ailments that is associated with UC?

More important, has anyone ever had one of these nasty things and how do you get rid of it?

It is quite common with UC patients. I used to have lots of them. Still I have lots of them. They hit either near the groin area, face, back or chest.

You may kindly show it to some dermatologist to ensure that it is simple boil and not an abscess. They may put you on an antibiotic course.

For other skin ailments, like acne, boils on face, back side, resulting from UC, I use Neem soap, neem face pack, turmeric face pack. It is quite helpful. I used to have lots of boils on my face and on my back, but neem soap has helped me a lot.

Some of the boils are also the side effects of sulphasalazine and other medicines being administered for UC. Consult the doc as it may be some fungal infection.

I don't think they're necessarily associated with UC....but you should definitely get to the doctor and have it checked out. The fact that you're on Prednisone could be a contributing factor.

Boils are usually caused by the staphylococcus bacteria commonly found on the skin..but if it breaks, it is pretty contagious, so try to keep it covered.

If you've had any bikini hair removal, it's easy for the hair follicle to become infected if it's ingrown and become more than just a minor infection.
Especially if you have panties or pants rubbing against the area.

Do get it checked out, however...just to be on the safe side as to it not getting worse.

I've had maybe 4 boils in the whole time I've had this. I had one on the side of my face and 3 on my back. But I agree that maybe you should go in to see a doctor to be sure it is a boil.

     Oh please don't tell me this is related to UC.  My youngest daughter just complained this past weekend about a debilitating boil near her rectum.  I told her to sit in a sitz bath.  She seemed ok today but was wondering if there is any treatment for them.

Christine please consult the doctor to rule out any abscess. I do not want to scare you, or anybody else on this issue, but one has to take precautions of these boils/abscesses next to rectum as they may become fistulas.

I actually sat in a very hot bath this morning and I popped it. It was just bloody stuff inside. I believe it was an infected ingrown hair because it's the bikini area and I shave there regularly. It wasn't that big and feels much better now. Assuming I can skip the doctor's visit and be okay?i

ditto to Christine....anal inflammation should definitely be checked out, for one never knows what is going on. As well, infection can set in and work its way inward as in the form of an abscess or fistula or whatever else.

Please get her checked out thoroughly.

Shellie, just keep an eye on it and be sure it doesn't get any redder or any red streaks (lines) running from it. If that happens definately get in to see the doc because it can be sign of infection. Yes, I get ingrown hairs too along my bikini line from shaving and I had a rather large one several years ago. Hurt like hades it did! But once it opened, I was fine.

I have often read that these skin infections are common with UC, don't know why. If it seems to be healing now, it probably was an ingrown hair, no need to panic.

If you notice more of them, you should get it checked for MRSA. Mine manifested itself with two angry pimples on my underwear line near my backside and two in my armpit. I might have had it for a while, because I used to get those infected ingrown hairs and haven't since the MRSA was diagnosed and treated. If you are prescribed a strong antibiotic for MRSA, be sure to take probiotics!! I didn't and flared.

Antibiotic ointment can help heal these things up, too. I get them from time to time.

i had one many years ago, inner leg close to the vagina...turned out to be an abcess...had to be extracted...hurt like hell for days, left a nice scar and i never want to go through that again....doc said it was from remicade...boooo!!!

A lot of people have issues with boils, boils are not specific to having UC and UCers are not particularly prone to boils (even if you didn't have UC you'd probably still have issues with boils)...abcesses/fistulas are common with crohn's and not common with UC though.
