I think the diet they told me to follow at the hospital wasn't working with me. I am still on a flare (been a month) and some days are much worse than others. I realise that when I eat high glucose foods (white bread, white pasta, rice krispies, etc) I get bloody diarrhea at night time. Is there anyone else who have problems with that kind of food which is often the diet we are told to follow when we are diagnosed??
I decided to head for the natural food store today and got plenty of good stuff I want to try. I am changing my probiotics and multivitamin for better ones (I was using the generic ones from the drugstore). The probiotic I got is the Garden of life "primal defense" HSO probiotic formula, If anyone is familiar with this. THe multivitamin I got is from Platinum and is called "easymulti" with omega 3 and 6. If anyone ever tried those I would love to have some feedback.
I started to cook with spinach, turmeric, oat bran, I am adding steamed and pureed vegetables to my meals and I will cut all the high glucose white stuff like white bread and pasta. I even got spinach pasta, I'll see if I can tolerate it. I will stick to rice since it doesnt seem to cause me any discomfort...
I am switching to soy milk (I used rice milk and lactose free cow milk but the rice milk doesnt give much protein and the cow's milk is hard on my system...)
I hope those little changes will make me feel better soon, I am trying to change one little thing at a time to be able to see whats working and whats not but with how sick I feel it's hard to pinpoint anything I guess I have to give it time...
I have a question about bread, anybody have an idea of what type of bread is okay with colitis? I was thinking about an all barley bread, I have been told that barley is easy to digest and is one of the softest cereals (besides rice) for the gut.. Is that true???
Also, I would like to know your thoughts on taking aloe vera gel as a "gut soother" I was thinking about trying that too... (1 spoonful in the morning and one at night is what they say on the bottle..)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on everything, anything will help!
