Melatonin takes a about 3 weeks to 'kick in'. The biggest benefit is that it almost stop 'morning flares'. I had had severe joint pains and after 3 weeks of melatonin my pains got reduced and today I no longer have joint pains. I believe that you can never overdose yourself with melatonin.
DMSO has similar benefits but it acts much faster. DMSO can reduce pain almost immediately.
You will be wasting your time with 3mg of melatonin a night. Melatonin only works if taken in large doses. The 'slow release' works much better but it's 3 times more expensive.
