Immodium question

Can taking immodium long term cause any problems? My son has Crohns (I know this is the UC forum but I love you guys so much). It's pretty much under control except for the morning bathroom routine (several times over the first few hours waking up). He has found that taking 2 immodium in the morning allows him to have one nice movement. He feels fine the rest of the day. It allows him to work (he's a mechanic). It hasn't changed the color, consistency or anything else of his bowel movement, just the number of times he goes a day. I figured I would ask the experts here for their opinions. I thought possibly cutting it down to one pill a day to see how that works.

My doc has said it's not a problem to take it as maintenance drug. I had a prescription for it once, to be taken daily, before it became available over-the-counter.

This is how I'm living right now. I take immod. about every four days and am GREAT and then on the 4th day here comes the D and lots of blood. I just called the GI and have an appointment for 2:45 this afternoon. My problems started after GI wanted me to drop to 3 Lialda a day from 4 and I got smart on my own and dropped 6MP from 75mg to 50mg. He's always bragging that I'm such a great patient by always taking my medicines properly and doing research. Haven't decided if I will admit what I did with the 6MP dosage. I have been back on full doses of both and Canasa for three weeks with no improvement. I'm wanting to try a steriod foam or supp. because the Canasa isn't making a difference. Not really a fan of enemas and won't take pred. EVER again. I'd be fine taking immod. every 4 days but now I'm worried it's making it worse somehow b/c on the 4th or 5th day I have PAIN and lots of watery blood. Took 2 immod. this morning just to get off the toilet and get my little girl out of bed.

So glad to hear I am not alone. Even the immod. has failed me this morning for the first time. I was only better for a few hours after taking immod. I wrote down the medication you mentioned and am going to ask my GI about it this afternoon. Thanks so much!!

Saw GI this afternoon. He said using immod. is fine but he has trouble with some patients taking too much of it and then getting constipated. I told him I was only taking 2 pills every few days and he said that is fine and to continue to do as I felt.
He's keeping me on all meds and we are adding a steriod enema. I am supposed to do one every night for a month and then if things are better, we go to every other night. I don't know the exact name of what he gave me yet because I don't have it yet. The pharmacy said they were going to have to order it and I could pick it up tomorrow. Kinda glad I'm off the hook for it tonight. I hate the enemas! He said they will get a much larger area treated than a supository. UGH!!
