For Julee70 & others in U.S./Canada interested in mesalamine foam

A Shire representative happened to be meeting with my gastro's nurse during my recent office visit. I decided to approach when I saw him leaving & asked him about the possibility of getting the foam marketed in North America. I told him that Shire's affiliate in Australia distributes it there-- all the more reason that we should have access to it! He promised to bring it up to his superiors & explained that his meeting just concluded was basically about Lialda, which didn't surprise me. I assured him that many IBD patients in the U.S. & Canada would appreciate being able to get the foam. He seemed open-minded about it. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

JoMarie, I hope I'm wrong about this-- but I have a feeling that the suppository-making pharmas are keeping it out to avoid competition for their expensive product. Julee70 was able to buy a supply of foam during a trip abroad last yr & reported back to us that the dispenser is larger & different than what comes with Cortifoam, but she got advice on using it here from member Knitty_Cat in Australia & had no problem, plus got relief from her inflammation while using it. That's really what we're after-- so I hope Shire will take the matter seriously & market foam in North America finally. It's such a logical thing to do; we're a larger patient population than Australia! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
