And i thought that 3-4 urgent BMs in the morning was my 'flare'... after Friday's colonoscopy it seems I'm 20 steps backwards!  Seems like the urgency and frequency is starting to improve but I'm having some pretty good cramping now at all times of the day and several loose BMs, too.  Does the prep and then scope do our colons in????  very disapointed in this.

I think a lot of people react badly to a colonoscopy. After all, it is a fairly rough procedure on your colon, especially if biopsies are taken. I had my most recent colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago and am just now returning to normal after a mini-flare.

What helped me was to watch my diet (avoiding problem foods), rest as much as possible, increase my probiotic intake (I use Healthy Trinity from Natren), and take the supplements listed in my signature (especially n-acetyl glucosamine, co-enzyme Q, fish oil and flax oil). I also gave myself an enema to help stop the bleeding (Jini's retention enema as found in Jini Patel Thompsons' "Listen to Your Gut" book).

After effects aside, were the results of your colonoscopy positive? I seem to recall you being quite apprehensive about what might be found.

thanks for the reply.  To say I was apprehensive is a huge understatement!  Glad it's done with.  Just sweating the biopsy results (took 13).  Chatted briefly with my doc just afterwards and he said entire colon was inflamed (I suspect from the prep.....that hit me hard).  But, he did say he didnt see anything that really concerned him (can I assume they can see something alarming while they are in there?).

I'm a paranoid type if you can't tell.

I'm guessing that your doc made his comment because he didn't see any evidence of cancer, like suspicious looking polyps. But that is something you need to discuss with him.

I don't know about the preparation causing the inflammation, but I do know that undertaking a prep while your colon is inflamed can be torture. Been there, done that. Hopefully your doc won't have you undergo another colonoscopy while your colon is inflamed. If he does, I would get a second opinion.

I have found over the years that my body responds differently to each and every prep/scope. Sometimes I have issues and other times I don't. I had one two years ago, while flaring, and the prep made things so much much worse. Including the bleeding from the biopsies. Then I had another one this past April, while in remission, and I had no issues at all.

Usually if my doc sees anything while in there, he will say. But it sounds like your doc just saw inflammation, which is to be expected when you're flaring. Obviously he can't tell you the results of the biopsies right away but I hope that everything comes out good and I hope you start to feel better!
