Not UC...Chron's...

I just had a colonoscopy...and the doc says the results are more consistent with Chron's. I've been indeterminate for about the eight years I've had this disease, and I'm guessing that the next diagnosis will be UC.

I just wish they could figure it out with 100% accuracy.

Anyone else have this problem?

(and should I change forums?)

Well at times, even my biopsies have been confusing. Infact, the same set of slides tested at different labs gave conflicting results. One showed UC (just after surgery), the other one diagnosed it as "Indeterminate colitis". The third one "suspected Crohns".

I was indeterminate colitis but now my new GI is saying something different.

My local GI that I see on a regular basis says UC. A specialist at a research hospital that I saw last summer looked over all my previous records and said he felt like it was more like Crohns. When I came back and told my regular GI what the other doctor said, he insisted it was UC. Who to believe? Of course I want to believe UC because in my mind it has a cure.....surgery, while Crohns doesn't.

I just got an email today from my Doc.  Another pathologist looked at my biopsies and said they were more consistant with UC instead of Crohns. So he is going to change my med from Humira to Remicade which he said is better for UC.

Diaper man, can't u just stay on the Humira? Is there any real reason for "backing up" on the meds? I know it's because of the diagnosis, but is the Humira working for you? Personally I'd stick with what's working and no changing if there is a way around the "rules."

I agree with sweetie. Also, I haven't heard that there's that much evidence that remicade works better...it's just that humira hasn't yet been approved for UC, at least from what I understand.

Sweetie and Fruitgirl thanks, but actually no Humeria has not worked. I think it has worked a little but I am not near remission. I could be worse though with out it. One good thing if it is accurate that its straight UC and not crohns, then I could be cured with surgery.

AM, you can certainly post at both the UC and CD forums, especially if your crohn's is affecting your colon (crohn's colitis) as mine is, the treatments and symptoms are virtually identical to UC when CD is affecting the colon.

Well thanks all for posting...it's just so irritating when you know somethings wrong, but they can't tell WHAT :)

I think I'll just keep thinking along with the UC diagnosis although Chron's does get scholarships...

I still don't know what I have either. I had biopsies that came back ulcerative proctitis and the report said it was indicitive of UC. Then a year later I got biopsies during a colonoscopy and it said "inactive" colitis. My dr said there were patches of mild inflammation. I want to get the report and read it myself but I am worried I will get myself stressed about the results.

notsosickly, patches of inflammation are most definitely indicitive of crohn's, have you seen another GI for a second opinion? It must be awfully frustrating for those that cannot get a conclusive DX, my CD was easily and immediately DX, same with my mom's UC so I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have such confusing results (I wonder if much of that is to do with a GI that isn't very good at his/her job).

I think the condition of my UC or Chrons was different at the time of the biopsies. The 2nd time I was almost in remission. The first time I had one small patch of inflammation in my rectum. I definitely need to get some more answers but I can't deal with a nother colonoscopy for a while.

I had a similar experience. My blood work says Crohns, but my GI believes it is UC because of its location and how it looks when doing colonoscopies. I say that as long as it is managed, a label is just a label.
