Remission... never knew what it felt like, till now....

Hey all... not meaning to brag but I had to post. I FINALLY know what remission actually feels like!! Diagnosed in 2004 and had 3 major flares... Last year around March was my last major flare and it took me a few months before I felt better. I thought I was in remission then... then this year around March I kinda flared again but not nearly as bad as last year. I started to REALLY watch what I was eating because I really didn't want a repeat of last Spring. I got threw it ok and realized what one of my major food triggers were. Cinnamon Rasin Bagels! I was eating them every other day for breakfast and sometimes as a snack. I switched to Cheerios and now since Easter I have have NO PAINS what so ever and have been gaining back my energy and ambition. I only have to nap probably 2 days out of 7 now as compared to my every day naps!!!

I know people have posted here before wondering what remission felt like. To me, remission was just being able to "cope" with the abdominal pains and discomfort.. make it to work.. crawl home and have a nap. Now.. I think I finally know what it REALLY is... I NEVER realized how much discomfort I was in before... now with no pains I am a different person.. the person I was before 2004. Also, taking my meds properly is probably helping alot as well.. I tried to take them as scheduled before but now I am 100% covered on my husband's medical I am on a more strict "take my pills" routine.

In all.. I just want to stress to you all to take your meds AS PRESCRIBED if possible and really REALLY pay attention to what you are eating. I kept a food journal for the whole year last year and even then I did not realize it was the bagels that were killing me. Probably because sometimes I wouldn't have them every single day but I still had pains from the day I had eaten them.. so I figured they were not the cause because I didn't have one that particular day I had pains.

In any case... I wish remission on you all, it's wonderful. :O)

There's a lot to be said for using meds properly and faithfully....it's great you're feeling well. Enjoy!

I'd have discomfort from raisin anything....dried fruits are notorious for causing gas for possibly anyone...I wouldn't call it a trigger food for UC, however....for gas, yes.

As Dr. MacDermott, Albany Medical (I am going to have a consultation with him June 18) stays in his report about IBS and IBD...

Symptoms can occur within 15 minutes or can

be delayed for 6 to 48 hours

Check out his report....he has 30 years experience and I am looking forward to meeting with him...

     That's great news!  Remission is wonderful, isn't it?  I enjoyed seven full months of remission, but I was on vacation for the past three weeks and realize I have eaten things that I shouldn't have, even though my GI doctor says diet has nothing to do with IBD.  I ate pizza (even just one slice) and some spicy foods.  I think the coffee I was drinking every morning was a tad too strong too.  Well, I am now paying the price once again.  Proctitis is my major problem.  I see the mucus and feel the pressure.  I'll try to stay off the prednisone and hopefully the Cort enemas and Canasa will turn the tide.

Congrats!

It does feel great to be in remission. Today we went to the annual fair. I wasn't able to go to the bathroom before leaving the house. By the time we got to the fair, I had to go. However, there were no private bathrooms. Every bathroom had a line to it. I was able to hold it in the whole day :)

Thank you everyone. The continuous support and good advice here always helps. Heck, it's pretty much the only place ya can go and safely talk about poop. LOL.

I just wanted to thank you for this link.

I have been recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and at first did not realise there would be a need to change my diet.

I am on my second flare up two months later and am seeking every bit of advice possible.

I found this helpfull, so again thank you!!
